About Kendall

I am currently an undergraduate student at Stanford University who has over 4 years of experience tutoring students, including those with various special needs, ages 9 to 20 years old. I worked as a teacher's assistant for math and english classes at a low-income middle school for two years. I also have worked at houseless shelters and transitional living homes for young adults, running various groups from educational to therapeutic. I value professionalism and ensuring that you feel empowered as a learner! You come first! And I truly believe that intelligence is a learned skill and unfortunately, in our society, only one specific way of conceptualizing intelligence is valued. My goal is to help you trust yourself in learning and recognize that you are brilliant and can succeed! (especially if your learning style does not fit the "norm")

About the lesson

My teaching style is first, getting an understanding of what you are wanting out of these sessions! This time is for you, and I want to make sure that we are making the most of it. Secondly, I want to understand you as a learner - what is helpful, unhelpful? strengths? weaknesses? Everyone conceptualizes ideas, knowledge, and skills differently, and creating a plan that is suited to your individual needs is my goal. I want you to feel empowered as a learner. I am a hands-on-learner who likes doing in order to retain information - I learn best through failure and mistakes! I am proficient in all different teaching techniques so we will just try them on for size and see what works! Typical lesson plan: We check-in, create a to-do list, make sure that you are feeling supported and adjusting anything if you are needing something different, go through material/do practice problems together (or whatever learning style is best for you!). I may assign you projects to work on outside of class if that feels good to you and me! Or give you tips/work to create a plan with you to help with time management or planning for projects/homework. Throughout the week, if you are needing support on a specific problem, or know that you will want to work on something in our session, you can reach out to me through text or email. I will get back to you within 24 hours! I hope to work with you :) I accept any age - from 1st grade through undergraduate college.
