About Charlotte
I am Trinity TESOL accredited English Teacher. I got my certificate in 2015, but I had volunteered prior to this as an English teacher in Morocco and Italy. After receiving my qualification I taught in a UK language school and volunteered as a TESOL teacher for a local church. Passionate about language learning and communication, I did my BA in Arabic and Persian language, spending time in Jordan, Palestine, and Iran. I returned to London in 2021 and graduated with a First-Class. I taught English throughout my degree as an online teacher for Houhai, an English school based in Beijing. Upon finishing in 2021, I began to tutor Persian to first-year undergraduate students and busy professionals, 1-1, online. Additionally, I worked as an online coordinator for Persian Language Online. In this role, my focus was on creating educational content for the Spoken Persian dialect, which you can find on the website persianlanguageonline dot come slash learn. Following this, I worked for the council as a refugee resettlement project officer, supporting families from Afghanistan who were waiting for housing. As well as using my interpretation skills, I also organised and ran additional English grammar and conversational classes for the women. Currently, I live in İstanbul and I am learning Turkish, so I am continually reminded of the challenges of learning another language!

I think language learning should be a relaxed process. My experience as a teacher and a student has shown me that stress can really inhibit language learning. It is better to show up relaxed and engaged - with a desire to actually communicate something - than to come anxious about what you do or do not know or remember. Having said that, repetition and recall are key, so I do encourage my students to recall the content of a previous session themselves. I also encourage them to look over materials, and to do some "homework" - this just consists of writing a short piece about an area of interest (trying to apply what we have done together), which we will then look at together. This is a good form of revision, steers the lessons towards subjects that actually interest the student, and then allows them to work out how to formulate it and pronounce it. Taking time to have a little chit-chat (if the level allows) is also great. I write all new vocabulary terms and expressions down, along with their conjugation and prepositions. At the student's request, I will also send voice notes, so that they can listen to the key parts after the lesson.

Charlotte helped me a lot to improve my Persian. She was always really patient and kind. Her lessons were thorough, super engaging, and always with a sense of humour!
She is a fantastic professor; I highly recommend having lessons with her if someone aims to practice speaking skills or is starting to learn the language like me! :)I am half Persian and have been taking Farsi lessons with Charlie to brush up on my conversational skills. Charlie is an incredible tutor who has such a kind and thoughtful teaching style. She takes time to prepare materials for lessons, and gives me flexibility to choose what I would like to learn. She is a natural and gifted communicator who always makes me feel comfortable and encouraged (even when I make mistakes!) Her Persian accent is flawless and by not being an Iranian native herself, she really understands what the challenges of learning Farsi are - and is able to pre empt the trickier concepts. I always looks forward to me lessons, and I could not recommend her more highly!
