Are you wondering where is the best English tutoring class in Malaysia?

You have come to the right place. Malaysia, like any other nations in the world, are moving forward in linguistic studies. The importance of English has been seen as ‘Crucial’ to survive in the modern society. What’s more, without the knowledge and strength in English, you might be left behind and there is a very low possibility for you to advance in your academic studies; in the end going into the working world without any basis of English will be a difficult experience.

I am not simply saying this to make you scared. I know we all have our ego, especially, the older generation. We are proud of our mother tongue. We did not want to learn any other language and believe that if we speak our own language, the world will see that and will follow. This situation usually happens in Asian Countries.

However, sometimes things never go our way. It is somewhat true as we know, Chinese people are very proud of their own language and will always speak mandarin. BUT, what is their total population? What about the ability for them to migrate and disperse to every part of the world?

Now, let’s compare to Malaysia. Bruh…

Again, I am not saying this to let you down. I am a proud Malaysian. I still can speak Malay language fluently. Everything in life should be balanced. Once you start learning English, you should never forget your roots. That’s very important!

Do you know Jack Ma? The founder of Alibaba. He was nothing before. He is a Chinese. Does he speak Chinese when communicating with the world? He speaks ENGLISH!

You see, the proudest race in the world, can speak English fluently. Look where he got to now. He believe in education, he believe in opportunity, and he believe in himself!

The Importance of English Language

Reading is a way to success
English has become a requirement in furthering your studies. (Source: Unsplash)

As you may be aware of, English Language is one of the core subjects taught in every level of education in Malaysia. Moreover, English has become an essential language in the job requirements.

There are three main national examination in Malaysia, UPSR (Primary-School Examination), PT3 (Lower Secondary Examination) and SPM (High School Examination). UPSR marks for your transition to lower secondary school, PT3 marks your transition to upper secondary school, whilst SPM marks as a leaving examination of schooling. The grades are important as it will determine which places that will accept you for your future studies.

When you leave primary schools by means of completing UPSR, there are 4 options in which you can go.

  1. Government Secondary School
  2. Government Boarding School
  3. Science Boarding School
  4. International or Religious Boarding School

For Boarding School options, you need to excel in your UPSR Examination. Two main subjects to excel with flying colours are Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language) and Bahasa Inggeris (English). The same requirements are needed for you to enrol in Boarding Schools after sitting for PT3 Test too.

What’s more, you will have to sit for IQ and Psychometric test to get into some of the top prestigious schools in Malaysia. That being said, English is one of the assessment given and even some schools used English as the medium language for the test.

Meanwhile, SPM is the penultimate examination sat by secondary school students before entering form six, universities or any other higher education institutions. Thus, English is also one of the requirements to enrol in one of these institutions.

Nonetheless, English is widely spoken across the globe. Malaysia Government has created a goal in developing individuals that are equipped to work in a globalised economy. This is one of the steps to employ a citizen that are in-demand for employability.

Not having awareness of the most basic of English principles is practically impossible these days. Hence, making the English language as compulsory in SPM level is the first step towards a more enhanced English environment in the future.

Having said that, getting a good grade in English is a must to pave a better future. So, getting an extra English lesson will be profitable in the long run.

Malaysia is one of the country that allows private tutoring despite having thousands of tuition and learning centres. Most citizens, especially Malays are starting to acknowledge the importance of education.

Many agencies has started to do awareness campaign on education investment. Some parents have started to save for the kid’s education as early as when their children are still in the womb!

Due to this, education centres have popped-up like mushroom after rain. There are huge numbers of learning centres especially in the big cities.

So how can you know which centres provide the best education services? Here are some tips that can be used to find the best English Centre in Malaysia.

Firstly, you must know your budget. There are few types of learning centres.

  • Tuition Centre
  • Language Centre
  • Language Tutor

The most affordable learning centre is to enrol at any nearby tuition centre. Most of the teachers are school-teacher and high-school leavers. Worry not, the high school graduate are one of the top students and usually doing part time while waiting for acceptance letter to the university. Usually students are more comfortable to learn from a tutor about their age.

A language centre normally has quite a higher fee. The tutors are mostly qualified and experienced English teachers. They usually have a master in language. However, the format for English learning are not tailored for school students. The learning are more on professional and communicational courses.

Language tutor’s fee depend on their qualification and experience. You can get tutor from as low as RM 30 per hour. The best quality of a language tutor is that they can tailor a specific English learning module depending on the student’s English level. Plus, they are available to teach online or face-to-face at any time of your convenience.

After all the consideration on your budget, you must look at the teachers’ profile. Like I stated above, some teachers are school-leavers. It is okay for them to take charge for primary school students but for the big examinations like SPM, they are still lacking experience.

Next, you should know if your availability is concurrent with the learning centres or not. This is quite hard especially when you have a lot in your hand so you lack flexibility in timing. If this is your main concern, choosing a private language tutor will be best.

In the previous section, I have mentioned how Malaysia have varieties of options when it comes to education. The top 3 English learning centres in Malaysia are :-

  1. Cambridge English For Life
  2. Kumon Learning Centre
  3. ELS Malaysia

They are considered the top English Learning Centre in Malaysia because they have opened many branches throughout Malaysia, especially in the big cities like Johor Bahru, Johor, Melaka, Petaling, Selangor, Seberang Perai, Penang dan Ipoh, Perak. They have thousands of students enrolling each year.  Nonetheless, their teaching method and curriculum are considered the best.

In the recent movement control order, tuition centres have been frozen from opening. Thus, it has become irrelevant for students to enroll at any tuition centre. So, most of the existing centres have taken another approach by means of ‘online learning’.

English is not as easy as learning from books. You should be investing time on doing practices, not only in writing essays, but also in understanding the questions and how to tackle those questions in the most appropriate ways. Some students are not independent enough to take some time off to do at least an hour of revision. Thus, this is where the tutor can help the students with.

There are literally thousands of tutors across Malaysia who can teach English on different levels. Some may specialize in teaching pre-schoolers while others may have more expertise in teaching PHD level.

Of course, for School level, you need to find a tutor that has the knowledge in the Malaysia English Examination’s latest format, have access to past years exams questions and answers, and have the tips on gaining more points for the exam’s questions.

However, when it comes to the online learning, I can 100% assure you that Superprof are the best in the industry. Superprof is a well-known online tutoring website that allows students to choose their own tutors according to their preference. No matter where your location is, either in prime areas or rural areas, Superprof is readily available in providing professional tutors for you.

If you are still undecided with all the tutors’ options offered by Superprof, fret not. Many tutors offer their first lesson or trial for free! Meaning to say, if you are not happy with the first class, you can opt to change your tutor without any additional charges.
