About Jason
I graduated with distinction in Voice and Piano from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I also received numerous prizes including 'The Daniel Davies Memorial Award for a Distinctive Vocal Student', 'Best Singer' Prize, and 'Most Promising Singer' Prize (2 years running). Whilst at college I played the title role in Britten's 'Albert Herring', Emperor Nero in 'The Coronation of Poppea'. and Basilio in 'The Marriage of Figaro'. After graduating I had the privilege of performing with companies such as Opera North and the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in the UK, as well as with opera houses in Germany (Krefeld and Moenchengladbach). Whilst performing the role of Ceruti in Ivor Novello's 'The Dancing Years', in the U.S. I was invited to give a series of masterclasses at the University of South Carolina. I have also previously held teaching positions at Italia Conti in London and for Stagecoach in Brighton and Portsmouth. Solo concert and oratorio work include 'Messiah', 'Elijah', Mozart's 'Dominican Vespers at the Royal Festival Hall, Tippett's 'A Child of Our Time' with the Liverpool Philharmonic, Britten's 'Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings' and Bach's 'St John Passion'. Musical theatre and Operetta roles include Camille in 'The Merry Widow', Hero in 'A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum', The Red Shadow in 'The Desert Song', Marco in 'The Gondoliers', Frederic in 'The Pirates of Penzance'...and a few more! An important time in my musical career was as founding Musical Director of the Actually Gay Men’s Chorus in Brighton, a position I proudly held for over a decade. During this time we recorded an album 'Somewhere For Me' with Universal Records for which I was M.D. and musical arranger. Community work includes a weekly choir at Maycroft Manor Care Home in Brighton Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to work with many gifted singers, actors and inspiring teachers. The wealth of knowledge and expertise they have shared has undeniably contributed to my growth as a teacher and performer and to them I'll be forever grateful. I now live and teach in the beautiful village of Falmer just outside Brighton with my partner and dog Morgan. There are great public transport links to Falmer via train, bus (23, 25, 28, 29) or car (A27). Onsite parking is available. I have my own studio and also access to our beautiful village church St Laurence's Falmer for lessons.

Perfect! Taking lessons with Jason has really improved my ability and confidence in singing. Through tailored exercises, I've been able to prepare for my Trinity Grade 8 with a much greater vocal range than I ever thought possible. I now feel equipped to take further steps towards the qualification, all while immensely enjoying the process.
Perfect! Thank you so much, Jason! I booked Jason for a one-off piano lesson as a gift for my father-in-law (Steve) who just bought a new piano, and he made the entire process easy and personalized for us. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but as soon as he called me back I was at ease, the service was incredible and still is. Now, Jason regularly visits Steve for lessons at his home, and Steve is absolutely loving it. I'm so glad I chose Jason —couldn’t be happier with the experience!

Perfect! Jason is an excellent tutor; highly skilled and very experienced. I am a complete beginner but felt that even in the first lesson I gained a tremendous amount through his energy, enthusiasm and expertise. I highly recommend Jason.

Jason was great! He taught my 12 year old niece who was visiting from Spain. He was attentive, encouraging and kind and managed to put her at ease straight away. She made remarkable progress within just a couple of weeks. Absolutely brilliant! I would highly recommend him.
I found Jason on Superprof because I needed someone to help me address some vocal problems I was having and his training, experience and interest in the kind of music that I like to perform made him good fit for me.
I now had five lessons, and he's really easy and supportive to work with, clear and direct in what he wants me to do, and very responsive to my questions, concerns and mistakes!
I'm already seeing good progress and I'm booking more lessons; I really can recommend him.I've had a couple of lessons with Jason and he's fun to be around. He has actually already given me some useful tips and techniques to see a change in my voice. After only a few sessions, so far so good.
Jason is a truly fantastic singing teacher. He has the amazing ability of teaching, sometimes quite complex things, in a way children don’t feel pressured. He is so encouraging, fun, always seeing the positive and building on it. He is good at pacing the teaching. My daughter, who is 10 years old, really enjoys her lessons and loves leaning arias in Italian.
Jason is also preparing her to take the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exam level 1 for which they have been learning song in French and Germain.
Nurtured by Jason’s passion for singing, his knowledge and great personality, my daughter’s singing and confidence have improved tremendously. I feel so glad we met Jason.
My daughter says: “Jason is really joyous, a five stars. He teaches me wonderful songs and gives me lots of compliments that make me want to sing all the time.”
I have known Jason from when I first joined his singing group some years ago and have subsequently moved on to having individual singing lessons from him. Jason is empathetic, supportive and patient in his teaching style and I find lessons with him to be both enjoyable and purposeful. He has high professional standards and knowledge.
Jason is teaching my 4 year old piano lessons.
My kiddo loves both the lessons and Jason! His rapport with children is exceptional!
I highly recommend Jason as a trustworthy, talented and fantastic tutor!Jason is an absolutely exceptional accompanist and singing teacher. He is beyond professional, kind and full of golden knowledge. I was able to rehearse and practice two musical theatre songs with him, his tips, techniques and musical abilities are outstanding! He went above and beyond to help me and I was delighted with the results. Feel very lucky to have met him and would recommend him to everyone and anyone! Truly grateful to have been able to soak up his time and teaching.
I have worked with Jason for about 2 years. I have had many different teachers through out the years but he is the first one that doesn't seem to have a one size fits all approach. Also that is prepared to listen and doesn't mind me asking questions ( i know i can ask too many!) and is prepared to experiment and try new things. So it can feel more like a collaboration which is fun. Where ever you are at he is very relaxed and encouraging and puts people at their ease. Definitely recommended.
Jason teaches our son and daughter to sing and helps our daughter with the piano too. He is amazing, an awesome musical talent himself and a charismatic, energetic teacher and such a lovely giving, caring man. The whole family adores him and we very emphatically recommend him.
Jason is a really brilliant teacher. I’ve been working with him for about 4 months and my singing has improved significantly in that time. I only began with Grade 4 singing and I am already working on Grade 7, with plans of getting Grade 8 within the next year. Jason began by me fantastic resources, such as books of vocal exercises, theory books, and tons of sight singing exercises, and a whole variety of resources which are appropriate for my particular needs. He has a wealth of knowledge about repertoires and helped with selecting exactly the right songs, which fit my voice completely. He’s great not only with classical singing, but also with musical theatre, explaining the difference between more operatic and theatrical singing. He’s a great singer himself, and a very confident piano player.
His teaching is very personalised, and he is able to adapt the teaching to get the most out of the student in front of him. He has helped to extend my range and increased my confidence hugely. He’s kind and responsive, but always pushes me to get the best performance of the song I can. He’s a great technician, and really articulate, so it is easy to understand his advice. He uses visual explanations and brilliant analogies to make it really easy to understand, visualise, and embody the advice; this means that you remember it and can apply it to your singing in an organic way. So you can sense the mistakes, without having to hear them. For instance, he gives fantastic tips about breathing, placement of vowel sounds, creating the right amount of space for the notes, etc.
It is always really enjoyable to have lessons with him because he is such a warm and friendly person to be around. I would really recommend him to anyone of any singing level.Jason is the best singing tutor I’ve had the pleasure of working with. As a performing drag queen, I often struggled to find songs that complemented my, let’s say, unique sound. But Jason has transformed my voice from that of a lacklustre karaoke queen to a true performer worthy of gracing any stage.
It’s not just about formulaic technique with Jason, he really understands the intricacies of the voice and knows how to explain things in a simple way and devise bespoke exercises which support you achieve your goals.
Working with my newfound range and stronger voice, Jason helped me develop my repertoire and build backing tracks in the correct keys, which has elevated my performance no end. Gone are the days of shaky, pitchy performances, Jason has given me the confidence to own the stage with a voice as good as I look.I first met Jason when I was 16 years old trying out my first ever opera aria in a masterclass. Jason coached some sounds out of me that I'd never made before, and afterwards phoned my parents enthusiastically to talk to them about my potential to be a professional opera singer. Following this, I worked more with Jason who nurtured and prepared me for my music college audition. No more than 6 months after the masterclass, I was accepted into the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to study classical singing. Since then, I have gone on to sing for a good number of professional companies including Opera Holland Park, Grange Park Opera, Garsington Opera, English National Ballet, Charles Court Opera, and many more. Now honing my craft at the Dutch National Opera Academy, I still rely on the foundations that Jason instilled in me as a singer 11 years ago- chiefly that depth of breath is the core principle of vocal production. Jason really knows his stuff, is a truly wonderful person, and if I hadn't met him, I wouldn't be where I am today. I can't recommend him highly enough!
Jason has worked for us for nearly 5 years as a choir director. He is kind, funny, caring and highly professional. He always encourages us and makes learning new songs fun. He has excellent knowledge of a wide range of musical styles and what songs would suit our voices.
I’ve known Jason for 9 years. He was the musical director of my chorus but passed the baton to a new musical director after 10 years. I am now a student in a master class which Jason jointly runs with Brighton based soprano and vocal coach Samantha Howard.
Jason is an expert when it comes to arranging music. He teaches both how to sing and how to play the piano. His voice is utterly beautiful - I had the absolute privilege and pleasure to stand and sing next to him at a funeral recently and I was once again reminded of his amazing talents.
If you are serious and willing to work hard and knuckle down with your learning, you will be rewarded with passion and enthusiasm!Jason is patient, kind and mindful of where you’re at in your learning journey. I have come so far in just a couple of weeks and now I’m excited to pursue my grade 1 in piano next spring (hopefully!)
Jason pushes me to be better every week and has taught me to be patient within myself too.Jason is far and away the best music teacher I’ve ever had the honour of working with. Unsure of yourself? Not sure what you’ve got? Jason’s your man! As a very experienced professional he instantly understands what will work for you. And you’ll be in stitches all the way to a singing voice you never knew you had!
I have been taught by Jason for just over a year and he has completely transformed my singing. I am now far more confident and technically more able but more importantly, I totally love singing a very wide range of music from baroque to songs from musicals.
I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Joan AmosI find Jason’s singing technique suitable for my voice and helps to remove any tension. Large knowledge of repertoire and a great help in learning new songs. I was recommended to take lessons from Jason by his another student.
Jason has been my vocal coach and teacher for 15+ years, both on 1 on 1 basis, and in both TTBB and SATB group learning environments. He's a technique master with boundless enthusiasm that challenges me to tackle ever tougher music choices across multiple genres.
Jason is a very talented musician and singer. Using a combination of classical songs, his vast experience teaching and producing choirs and singers for performance, and a sense of humour, Jason has transformed me from a frightened enthusiast to a competent singer of classical songs. I love singing with Jason. I have learned so much from him with great joy. I am delighted to recommend him.
Jason is a fantastic piano teacher. He has been teaching my son for 18months and he has gone from no piano knowledge to now being able to play scales and read music at a young age. He is extremely encouraging and this has helped his passion develop further into wanting to learn his piano grades. Jason is always punctual and flexible enabling lessons to fit in easily around busy lives. It is wonderful seeing my sons progress in these lessons.
Jason is a lovable character. Kindness and understanding just oozes from his personality. He is one of the most sort after singing teachers in our area. He seems to have an innate understanding of your vocal cords, ability and potential and within a very short time is able to steer and orchestrate both your voice and confidence to a new and surprising level.
Jason has a wonderful positive attitude which we have found inspiring. His ability to identify our strengths and to work through our weaknesses with kindness is invaluable. He has a lazer sharp ability to spot exactly what lies at the root of any problems which we encounter. A very talented teacher indeed.
Jason is a master of his craft. His knowledge of the complexities of the human voice is vast & his skills at communicating these to the student are excellent. Jason is also an expert choral director, music arranger & musician. Highly recommend his tuition to any student, be they a beginner or advanced.
