About Valerio

Hello! I’m Valerio, nice to meet you!

I’m a Vocal Coach, singer/songwriter, and performer with many years of experience teaching and performing internationally and I can’t wait to accompany you on your vocal journey.

I have a holistic approach to singing and the voice, keeping in mind that our voice is deeply connected with the rest of our body and with our mind and feelings. The voice is a very delicate instrument and every minimum change in our physiology can affect it. That’s why we need to learn how to master its movements and dynamics, while being aware of how the different parts of our bodies and minds can affect the way we sing.

My singing background is very diverse and covers different musical genres and teaching methods, including Estill Voice Model , MVT (Modern Vocal Training) and Complete Vocal Technique (CVT).
I have studied singing in Italy and in the UK, approaching different genres, including pop, folk, musicals, jazz and opera. I have also studied piano for many years and I have a diploma in Music Theory, Harmony and Sight Reading at A. Casella Conservatory of L’Aquila, Italy.

I have lived in the UK for many years, performing and expanding my knowledge of singing by studying Estill Voice Model and Complete Vocal Technique. From London I released 3 albums and performed all over Europe, and now I have listeners in every continent. In 2021 I returned to Italy, where keep helping singers from all over the world achieve their singing goals, and I keep travelling to perform my songs.

I am a certified Modern Vocal Training vocal coach and I’ve studied Estill Voice Model and Complete Vocal Technique. I am also passionate about psychology, yoga, mindfulness and spirituality and am currently studying to become a professional counselor.

I’ve spent more than 10 years helping singers, and I can help you too! Whether you are an experienced artist looking to break your own boundaries or an aspiring singer who are taking the first steps in music, I can help you achieve a balanced and healthy singing voice. This will lead to greater vocal flexibility and agility, longevity and stamina, transforming your voice and shaping it in every way that you want!

I teach ONLINE or in person (in Milan).

I have a holistic approach. Our voice, mind, body, and emotions are deeply connected, and changes in one affect the others. Using this comprehensive approach will help you become a more conscious singer. In addition to vocal technique, we’ll address the mental, physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of singing, all of which are crucial for balanced vocal development and achieving your goals. These elements are intertwined, and when we understand this connection, we can fully explore our potential.

My singing lessons are open to singers of all levels—whether you’re a professional, advanced, or beginner. Whether you want to grow as a singer, musician, or artist, feel confident on stage, or simply sing for fun, my lessons are designed to meet your individual needs. Each lesson is structured around you and adapted to your level and goals.

Versatility is key to becoming an outstanding singer. My coaching covers a wide range of musical genres—from pop and jazz to musical theater and rock—so you can develop a well-rounded voice that’s confident and adaptable. With my experience as a songwriter and performer, I incorporate a variety of techniques and styles to help you unlock your potential and build a strong stage presence.

If you’ve never sung before, don’t worry! I’ll help you explore your voice and develop it with exercises suited to your current abilities. If you already know what you want to focus on, you’ll take the lead in deciding what to work on. I’ll provide feedback and equip you with the tools to improve, planning your practice in a way that’s efficient and tailored to your learning style.

During our lessons, I’ll help you diagnose vocal imbalances and find ways to improve your voice. We’ll set clear goals and explore new methods to use your voice how you want while keeping it healthy. With a range of techniques (such as Estill Voice Model, Modern Vocal Technique, and Complete Vocal Technique), we’ll discover the exercises and approaches that best suit you and help you achieve the sound you desire. Singing lessons will push you out of your comfort zone and help you realize that your voice has unlimited potential—it can be shaped into whatever you want it to be.

Vocal health is a core part of my teaching, but technique alone doesn’t make a great singer. We’ll also work on developing your unique sound, style, and artistic choices. I can help you with performance skills and interpretation, which are where your personality shines through. Together, we’ll analyze what a song needs and how you can make it your own, so you feel confident on stage and connect with your audience without barriers or blocks.

Beyond specific vocal techniques, I understand that singing is just one part of a bigger picture. Our voice, mind, body, and emotions are all interconnected, and changes in one area affect the others. My teaching takes into account these mental, physical, psychological, and emotional aspects, which are crucial to being balanced and reaching your full potential—not just as a singer but as an artist.

Singing lessons will also help you strengthen other musical skills like rhythm, improvisation, and music theory. As a pianist and guitarist, I can also help you develop your skills on those instruments so you can use them in your vocal practice or to accompany yourself on stage.

Singing is fun for everyone, and being a "good" singer isn’t something you’re born with. It’s shaped by your life experiences and how much you’ve allowed yourself to explore your artistic side. Some people are naturally more exposed to music, but everyone can improve and develop their voice with the right guidance. Your “natural” voice is simply the result of years of conditioning from your environment, but it’s entirely up to you to shape and change it.

WHAT CAN I SING?
Anything you want! If you're just starting out, think of a song you'd like to learn or something you find challenging. If you're unsure where to start, I can give you suggestions, but it's best to begin with something you enjoy and are familiar with.

For in-person lessons, please bring sheet music for the songs you'd like to work on if possible. If you don’t have it, we can search for it during your lesson, but this takes up valuable time (and we might not always find it!). Alternatively, we can use backing tracks or karaoke versions, which are easily available on YouTube for most songs.

VOCAL COACHING OR SINGING LESSONS?
The difference is minimal. I use the same tools in both, but generally:

Singing lessons focus on technique, developing a healthy and balanced voice, expanding vocal range, singing higher notes, reducing tension, etc. They are suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced singers.
Vocal coaching is aimed at more experienced singers and artists preparing for performances. They might already have good vocal skills but need help refining their style and making artistic choices in their performances.
However, the line between the two is not strict! A singing lesson can easily turn into a vocal coaching session and vice versa—it all depends on what you need when you come to me!

WHERE AND WHEN?
I'm available for lessons:

Italy time: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
UK time: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
I have a flexible schedule and teach mainly online via Zoom or in person in Milan (Centrale/Loreto area). I also frequently travel to London and Rome, so we can occasionally arrange in-person lessons there too!

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

Well, my parents were both singers and played in the marching band of my hometown, while also singing in a small choir in which they sang traditional Italian folk songs. So I was basically born with it! My favourite instrument is the voice, but I also love the piano a lot!
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Definitely! I love chamber pop, baroque pop and folk. At the top of the list I have Sufjan Stevens and Regina Spektor, but I do love a Christina Aguilera every now and then!
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think the hardest thing to learn is that it's allowed to make mistakes. There is so much pressure about sounding "beautiful", so we tend to withdraw, stopping us from trying. The best lesson is to learn that we may sound "ugly" from time to time and that if only we let ourselves see our flaws, we can then correct them. It sounds simple, but it's really not when dealing with insecurities and with a society that puts so much aesthetical value to the voice!
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Probably the voice. The fact that we can't see it's keys makes it really hard to visualise and master every little part of it. Science doesn't even explain all of it, so most of the methods are based on metaphors and sensations, rather than "play C with finger 3". It can take days or weeks to understand one little movement, and it's all a matter of being mindful and finding the right way to hear and reproduce a sound, and finding the right feeling inside the throat.
But also, I've held a violin in my hands a few times and I really can't see myself learning any soon!!
  • What are your keys to success?

Determination and passion. We have to want success. Getting there can be quite frustrating, and it's only if we really love what we do that we can fight the frustration and achieve what we need to!
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I wouldn't probably be in a bar in the early hours of the morning! But I would definitely love to meet Regina Spektor for a little songwriting session, Alanis Morissette to have a chat about psychology and self-development (and to braid each other's hair) and Sara Bareilles to get a singing lesson from her!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

    .
I'm not sure about a particular moment, but definitely one of the most important lessons I've learned is that to progress in music and to love this job, we have to surround ourselves with likeminded people. We need constant inspiration and stimulation from the people around us to keep going. Having musician friends can help creativity and motivation. In the moment of struggle, they understand what you're going through. When you achieve something, they completely understand what it means for you and will rejoice with you.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I have a holistic approach to music. We can't separate it from our soul and emotion. This is valid for any instrument, but it is especially true for the voice. Most vocal issues come from internal blocks, and learning to use the voice correctly can help unlock them, and viceversa, finding those blocks in our life can help developing our voice in ways we didn't think were possible. Having an understanding of this helps me deal with different vocal issues in a mindful way, sometimes including little mindfulness exercises in my lessons to help grounding and centering, always considering the whole of the person and not the instrument they are playing (or singing).
