Is there any examination for year 6 students to replace UPSR that marks the end of primary school and the beginning of secondary school?

As for now, there is no announcement on any replacement examination or assessment. Does that mean the students will end their primary school without knowing what level they are now in terms of knowledge

Well, the government has applied PBD (Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah) or known as Classroom Assessment that will be assessed continuously all year round. Even though these days we have Teaching and Learning at Home, PDPR (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah), it doesn't mean that the teacher does not assess you during that time.

For your information, all the practices and exercises the teacher gave you is one of the ways for assessment. There are many different ways to test  the students’ mastery in the subject, such as quizzes, interviews, question and answers during lessons and more.

So, did you think you can have a honeymoon year because UPSR has been abolished

No, you can’t! Time flies so fast that you can’t retrieve any of the time that you have lost. The only thing you can do is to continuously practice. Just a bit at a time is enough as long as you keep doing it.

“ We can make up for lost money, but we can’t make up for lost time”

-Simon Sinek

Since PDPR has taken place, you have a lot of time on your hands because you don't have to spend time getting ready and travelling back and forth to school. So, what can you do with the time that you have spared

You can do self-learning. Yes, Mathematics is one of the easiest subjects that needs little supervision once you grasp the concepts, and you can learn yourself.

Before we proceed on how you can self-learn Mathematics, why don't you look at the latest Year 6 KSSR Mathematics format in 2021.

How to Learn Mathematics by Yourself?

There are many people in the world who learn math without any teachers. You must be wondering, if that is so, why do people go to school, take extra classes, or even hire a personal tutor?

The reason is simple. Mathematics keeps on progressing along with the advancement of technologies. Mathematics a decade ago is not the same as the recent mathematics syllabus. Even some mathematical models cannot be used as it has been updated to the latest model today.

Mathematics rarely can be proven wrong as it doesn't depend on empirical experiments such as physics or chemistry which may be proven false later by experiments. Mathematics is nothing more than logic

This is the reason why most humans with logic are able to do math without any Mathematics course taken. However, bear in mind that there are vast differences between those who learn math and self-study

Here are the differences between those who take Mathematics courses and Mathematics self-learners

The easy and simple math gets complicated by self-learner

In Mathematics courses we learn multiplication tables where we are able to multiply 7 with 8 easily. However, those who learn by themselves will do it the hard way. They will add 7, 8 times; 7+7+7+7+7+7+7+7 to get the answer 56.

Study support

Everybody who learns math can never run from encountering difficult and complex questions. But with the help of an expert teacher in math, the hard questions get simpler. However, if you learn yourself, you might not get the answer right.

Save time

Learning by yourself can be time-consuming. You don't know where to start and which formula should be used.

With all being said, it doesn't mean to discourage you to self-learn Mathematics. It just means you need to know how to do it.

Steps on learning Mathematics by yourself.

  1. Set a target on which topic to master
  2. Evaluate your starting level
  3. Determine which level to start
  4. Find a syllabus to study so you wouldn't overstudy something outside your level
  5. Find references either Mathematical books, solution manuals or practice book
  6. Set time duration to learn each topic as to not waste a lot of time on any one topic

The last crucial step is to do productive practice or study smart.

Learn how to do productive practice and how to solve Mathematics KSSR Questions.

How to Choose the Best Year 6 KSSR Mathematics Latest 2021 Reference Book?

Picking the right references for Mathematics learning and practices is important. When you choose the Mathematics KSSR books, find one with the complete answer scheme that shows the solutions to the problems. You will need to be able to learn where your mistakes are and move forward to the next questions when you are stuck.

Once you have mastered the topics, you can buy practice books without solutions as it is cheaper and at this time you will need more practice books to polish your skills and improve timing

The rule of thumb to find the best reference book for Mathematics KSSR is by knowing the KSSR syllabus. Since Year 6 Assessment is a school-based assessment, asking your school teachers' recommendation is one of the best ways to succeed.

Whatnot, you should always remember that the current curriculum is not exam orientated. Thus, you should be able to determine where your current level is and start doing practices at that point.

If you are already good, you can always move forward to secondary school Mathematics level. By doing this, you might advance faster compared to your peers. You will also have more time to focus on other subjects when you become a high school student.
