Year 2021 marks the first year of UPSR (Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah) or Primary School Examination’s abolishment. What will happen next to the primary school students when there’s no longer any examination to grade them before proceeding to the secondary school?

Will the entrance to certain high performance schools and boarding schools be fair without UPSR?

The government allowed boarding schools or any schools that have entrance requirements to set their own internal assessment to assess students who are interested in enrolling at their schools.

One of the purposes that MOE abolished UPSR is to remove the exam oriented mindset,  however, that doesn't mean you should forget to keep improving your skills and knowledge. Examination is just a way to measure yourself. But when you are able to achieve more knowledge, you can pave your future easier compared to the rest of your peers.

Mathematics is only a little fish in the sea of knowledge. It is never a waste of time or money if you invest it on education as it is the best investment you can make for your future.

Majority of students hate math because they will get dizzy every time they see numbers and equations. Funny right?

However, the best thing about mathematics is that all the problems and equations can always be solved compared to the other subjects. Even if you go to the other side of the world, everyone can help you solve mathematics equations because math is universal. Everyone can read numbers.

Mathematics assessments can be in many formats. Either verbal quizzes, test paper, presentation or creating and modelling projects.

Verbal quizzes are easy as it can be done randomly during classes, where the teacher will appoint students to answer their questions or by  giving multiplication and arithmetic questions that students need to answer instantaneously

Meanwhile, the test paper is just the same as any other exercises and practices. Remember that HOTs questions are the favourite questions that will come out. You will need to familiarize yourself to answer HOTs questions.

What about creating or modelling projects

You should know that math encompasses everything in this world. With the PBD assessment that will be assessed internally, the teacher can also be creative to give any kind of test including asking students to do any modelling projects that is related to the syllabus.

To be good at Math will always start by doing a lot of practice. The very first step is finding the best references to jump-start your study.

Currently, there are many mathematics resources and platforms that you can get your hands on. However, the complicated part is how to choose reliable and good references.

The best option when you are learning mathematics is to search for books published by recognized publishers. Some publishers also have digital print formats such as in e-book, kindle, or flip page.

These publishers have been in the education industry for decades and they have joined hands with MOE numerous times to improve Malaysia Education.

Nonetheless, there are few EduTV that started a couple years ago to back up and be the supplementary learning session for kids at home. Here are a few educational channels that are great to watch during your spare time.

  1. TVOkey has been launched as a government initiative to help students who aren’t able to get internet connection at home during PDPR. You can watch this on the national TV channel 1.
  2. Astro Tutor TV (Channel 603) started a while back and has numerous educational series. They invited a lot of experienced teachers to guide students with their syllabus.
