JUST WHAT I WANTED!
In our first lesson, I told Alex I wanted to:
1. Get help learning jazz & music theory (to read charts);
2. How to make practice sessions more useful;
3. Learn better-sounding chord shapes for jazz tunes; and
4. Have a step-by-step way to build skills & knowledge.
After our first lesson, he gave me access to a private website, which has 30 well-presented lessons that build on each other. These keep me busy between lessons.
In our last lesson, he patiently showed me some great chord shapes to play over 'Round Midnight. That's a tune I'd wanted to learn for years but had felt too intimidated. Now I'm starting to play it. He's very patient, he knows his stuff, and he listens. I highly recommend him!

Alex is a wonderful, patient, and encouraging teacher! In the first month, as a complete beginner, I'm able to play the entirety of "I will follow you into the dark" by Death Cab For Cutie. In every lesson, we focus on different topics, such as tablature, strumming pattern, tempo adaptation, chord techniques (hammer on, strum same chord differently). Alex is also able to write out the tablature for the song I want to learn by just listening to it and provide feedbacks to make me play more like the original recordings. Definetely recommend to take his lesson!

Alex is a very knowledgable and patient teacher that gets you playing right away! He tailors lessons to the interests of the student and is able to easily explain concepts and techniques to help even a lay person understand and increase their skill. Would highly recommend!

Rockwell Guitar School is the best! When my oldest son started taking lessons from Alex when he was 7 years old, he learned a one-string riff version of the Harry Potter theme song in a week. After just 3 months, his fingers moved easily all over the fret board and strings. Alex is remarkable in his guitar skills, and his interpersonal skills. Now all three of my sons take lessons from Alex (they are 14, 12, and 9). Alex seemingly effortlessly develops lessons geared to the types of songs they like from video game music to movie soundtracks. They all love lesson days, and barely need to be reminded to practice. These are not the old-school piano lessons from my childhood!

Alex is an excellent guitar teacher who is super knowledgeable, compassionate, and great at breaking down difficult lessons into small, achievable steps. I look forward to our weekly lessons, during which I always learn new things, and come away with lots to work on. I feel fortunate to have found Alex and highly recommend him!

Really great experience. Very knowledgeable and professional. Would definitely recommend. In the beginning Alex determines where you are at skill wise and uses that to create the best plan specific to you to help you learn your instrument in a consistent and efficient way. You steadily progress at a proper pace to ensure that you develop the skills needed in order to fully understand your instrument.

Alex is a very patient, knowledgeable teacher who asks students what they want to learn, rather than imposing a rigid curriculum on them. My interest is primarily folk, but I think that he would be excellent in teaching fingerstyle and other guitar styles.

Alex started providing guitar lessons to my son at age 8. My son is now 13 and a strong guitar player in a band. Alex is masterful at instructing and motivating children. Alex is an accomplished guitar player, himself. He is extremely knowledgeable about the art and tricks of playing a guitar well. What makes Alex most special, though, is his ability to teach those same skills to others.

My daughter has been taking lessons from Alex for over three years and loves it as much now as when she first picked up her guitar!
He has been worked with her to learn the music that she is drawn to and teaches her those songs. It makes practice not like practice at all. I love walking by her bedroom door hearing her play the songs that Alex has taught her.
Alex has a great presence and is encouraging and relaxed in lessons while still making sure that she makes progress.
She has played a couple other instruments but none of them have stuck. She picks up her guitar several times a day and uses her new skills to pick up songs on her own as well.

I have been searching for a guitar expert/tutor online and came across Alex from Rockwell music. He provides in home tutoring and also online classes. I learned to play a song on my first day with Alex. He taught me to play happy birthday quickly and is very knowledgeable in playing the guitar. He doesn't look down on you for not playing correctly. He works with where ever you are and builds you up. He is very helpful and wants to reach whatever music goals you have. Alex is awesome!!!!

Alex is a great teacher. He does a really good job of breaking musical pieces into consumable parts and then pulls it all together. This results in one being able to learn and play complicated pieces they may have thought were outside their reach.

I have taken lessons from Alex for nearly 15 years. He is professional, an excellent communicator, and has a strong commitment to fundamentals. He loves all music and there isn't a style or genre of music that he can't play or teach. Classical, Blues, Country, Rock, and pop! He can figure out problems with a technique and quickly finds ways to make me improve it. He is always challenging me to take chances and to be better! He is a great teacher who connects with students from beginners to experts!

Alex knows how to effectively communicate with children. He always starts his lessons off by checking in on how the students are doing, which shows he cares about their well being. This approach really made my daughter feel comfortable and didn’t feel like this would be daunting to her or I (as the parent).

His lessons have been very effective, as he is very patient with demonstrations and guidance. He uses different methods and approaches; tailors lessons to the needs of the student.

Alex is a wonderful teacher. We have two daughters who have taken piano lessons from Alex for over a year now. He comes to our house to give lessons, which is an invaluable convenience for our busy schedules. Alex is always punctual and communicates well in the rare instances there is ever an issue (illness, blizzard). Our daughters vary in age and skill on the piano, and Alex is excellent at meeting them right where they are. He's caring, positive, enthusiastic, and the girls look forward to seeing him every week. And to top it all off, Alex is an excellent teacher of the piano!
