About Ishbel
I have been private tutoring for the last 5 years to a diverse age range: this has included regular lessons to sixth form and GCSE students specialising in humanity subjects and essay writing. I have as a qualification officer at the BFI Film Academy, a course for 16-19 year olds, this role involved overseeing the delivery of a course specific Qualification and ensuring each student (20 students overall) had the sufficient writing skills to meet the Qualification Criteria.
I studied History of Art and Fine Art Joint honours which required writing a number of essays (3,000-6,000 words each) a term. Throughout my studies I have always received 70% and above (first class) for every essay I have written.
I also have worked as a proof reader, for both undergraduate and postgraduate theses, for the last 2 years.

My teaching style aims to respond to the individual student. Every class I hold is a little different, aimed to fully cater to the way the student engages with learning.
Often I focus on essay structure and learning how to build an effective argument based on structured analysis. I strongly believe that the key to a good essay is passion and excitement for the subject so boosting the confidence of students is large part of my methodology. My approach combines equipping students with tools needed to build effective argument and essay structing while also focussing what would excite them to write about.
