About Kaitlin
I am an enthusiastic educator with a Masters of Education in Literacy, Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Special Education, and three years of classroom teaching under my belt. I am a first grade teacher in TX. This will be my third year teaching first grade, but prior to this position I was a fourth grade special education teacher in Boston, MA. My understanding of educational theories and evidence-based practices, specifically pertaining to literacy instruction and special education, goes well beyond that of a typical tutor.

Education should be a collaborative process and should always be student-led! As a tutor, I encourage students to think critically, ask questions, engage with the material in a variety of ways, and understand the bigger picture behind what they are learning.I like to open my lessons with a brief chat to get to know the student and let them know that our sessions are a safe space for them! Then, I will ask the student what they are needing help with and I will get to the bottom of where exactly the gaps are and I will think of how I can best fill them. My instruction is always quick, as I want the majority of the lesson to be student-led, with the student asking most of the questions and doing most of the work. Of course, I provide the necessary scaffolds, accommodations, and encouragement to guide them!I am able to tutor any elementary age student in all elementary subjects. However, my greatest passion is in teaching young students how to read & write. Phonics, phonological awareness, and phonemic awareness are my jam!!
