About James
I am a 2024 Brown University graduate who majored in applied mathematics and contemplative studies.
I pride myself on my open point of view, my clear explanations, and my ability to approach any topic with curiosity and creativity. If one avenue of learning isn't fruitful, we can find a whole host of other approaches.
My family is American, but I was born in London. I lived in Chicago for middle school and high school.
In high school I did FTC Robotics where we competed in the world championships, took the most advanced math and physics courses, and learnt C++ and Python.
In college, my Applied Math courses honed my quantitative abilities. Contemplative Studies, which combines philosophy, religious studies, and cognitive neuroscience, allowed me to refine my capabilities within the humanities while pondering existential quandaries. The combination of math and contemplative studies means that I am comfortable teaching across a broad array of subjects; even if our tutoring session is for math, I can easily address a humanities subject causing you trouble, and vice versa.

I am a fun, upbeat, passionate, and engaging Brown University graduate who understands what it takes to academically excel, and who wants to help make learning fun. I mastered the college application process, and next year I am going on to teach with the AmeriCorps City Year program.
I am well-versed in working with learning disabilities. I have turned my learning differences into superpowers that have propelled me forward and am ready to help the next generation understand and fulfill their own potential.
