About Sophie
Hello my name is Sophie! :)
I’m currently in my second year of studying Medicine at Sunderland University, having already achieved an upper second-class honours in Physiological Sciences BSc from the University of Bristol. During my first degree, I explored physiology in depth, and for my dissertation I investigated the effects of vaping on blood pressure during exercise, achieving 78%. I also achieved 85% in the module Exercise Physiology in Health and Disease—the highest mark in the class—which highlights both my academic ability and my passion for understanding how the body functions under different conditions.
This strong scientific foundation now underpins my medical studies, giving me a unique perspective that combines theoretical knowledge with clinical application. Having benefitted from tutoring myself during my A-levels, I know how transformative it can be for building confidence and achieving success. My approach to tutoring is highly tailored: I focus on breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps, while keeping sessions engaging and encouraging.
Outside of my studies, I am a keen sports enthusiast, with a particular love for running, wild swimming, hockey, and cycling. I also enjoy cooking and nutrition (I am not a great chef, but I try!).

In my tutoring sessions, I prioritise an individualised approach, recognising that every student has a unique learning style and pace. I carefully prepare lessons by first identifying the student’s goals, areas of strength, and topics that require improvement. From there, I structure sessions to include a clear explanation of key concepts, followed by active practice through a wide range of questions to consolidate understanding. My aim is not simply to cover content but to ensure students can apply their knowledge confidently.
I believe in creating an engaging and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable participating fully. Mistakes are welcomed as valuable opportunities to learn and grow, and I encourage students to see challenges as a positive step towards mastery. This approach fosters confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset.
Progress is measured not only by performance in practice questions and assessments but also by a student’s increasing confidence and independence in approaching problems. I set achievable goals for each session and regularly review progress to ensure students are on track. Encouragement, enthusiasm, and constructive feedback are central to my teaching style, helping students stay motivated and enjoy the process of learning.
Ultimately, my goal is to make every session productive, supportive, and enjoyable, equipping students with both the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their full potential.
