About Daniel

My main goal as a teacher is to have my students learn the joys of music. The path to that goal is different depending on the individual, but I seek to teach students of all backgrounds and ages to bring out each of his/her/their potential. I teach piano, voice, and composition lessons for a cheap fee compared to many teachers in the NYC area ($40/30 mins, $60/hr). Willing to negotiate prices if need be.

I enjoy accomodating and adapting to each of my students' learning and playing styles. I love when I see my students make breakthroughs in their pieces at their own pace. I enjoy working with children and adults alike. Introducing students to music they've never heard before and seeing them enjoy playing it is also an exciting part of the job I do.

I began teaching lessons while still an undergraduate at Bard in 2016. I have been teaching in-person and virtually for 5 years.

I have a Bachelor in Music from Bard College Conservatory of Music (earned in 2018).

I currently sing as a tenor at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Times Square. I began singing as a chorister with the St. Thomas Choir of Men and Boys. Most recently, I sang in a featured role in "State of the Jews," an opera composed by Alex Weiser.

I have composed music for the Da Capo Ensemble, Semiosis Quartet, the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, UT, the Atlantic Music Festival in Waterville, ME, and the Bard Conservatory Orchestra. My piece for choir, "Eternal Light" (2008), was praised by Allan Kozinn of the NY Times as "serene" and "attractively harmonized."

As a pianist I have performed with The Orchestra Now, and as a soloist at Chapel of the Holy Innocents in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

About the lesson

I usually start with a free consultation to gauge the student's interests and skill level. From there, I recommend exercises for them to practice at home. For piano students, I will recommend them a book from which they can start learning. As lessons progress, I will sometimes add exercises custom-made by me that will help improve their technique. With each lesson, I seek to improve the student's technique as well as their musicality.

I have worked with students of all ages and have no preference when it comes to their age.
