About Chantal

My name is Chantal I'm 25 years old and I've been playing the piano since I was about 8 years old. The reason that I am so passionate about being a teacher that makes learning enjoyable is because I hated playing the piano for about 7 out of those 17 years of playing. I had a really mean teacher and was forced to do piano and take exams throughout elementary, middle and high school. Thankfully I was able to switch teachers for my grade 6 exams and that was when I fell in love with the instrument. My teacher opened my eyes to the beauty of the piano and allowed me to learn new things outside of my examination pieces and I began to play piano for my enjoyment. I completed my grade 6 and 7 exams with that teacher and by that point piano had become my go to stress reliever as I continued to develop my love for the instrument.

My teaching journey began when my music teacher was unfortunately hospitalized and being her most senior student I was asked to take over in preparing her students for their exams. I was able to successfully prepare all her students to pass their music exams ranging from grades 1 - 5 and I realized that I really loved teaching those kids and wanted to continue. I've been teaching in person classes ever since but I wanted to challenge myself to teach online and share my love and knowledge of this beautifully majestic instrument with others around the world.

About the lesson

My main objective teaching piano is always to instill a love for the instrument and to empower my students through self-learning.

I usually structure my lessons in the following format:

-15 mins of theory
-30 mins of practical
-15mins of creative/ learning ( anything from learning a song on the radio to trying new things on the piano composing melodies.)

What sets me apart as a tutor is the desire for my students to enjoy the process of learning so that they develop the skills of independent learning. Independent learning can take you very far in life and that's the main reason for my 15min of creative/self learning at the end of every lesson.

My lessons are intended for anyone interested in learning the piano whether it is for fun, or for examination purposes.
