About Charlie
Having recently graduated from my Engineering Masters at the University of Bath, I currently work in Bristol as an aerospace engineer, where I apply my mathematics and physics knowledge daily, allowing me to understand the broader applications of these subjects.
This is evident in my lessons, where I can provide interesting examples and explanations that help build a deep understanding beyond the syllabus, allowing students to have the confidence to apply their knowledge in the real world.
I am half Japanese and half British, and I have lived in both Japan and England as I was growing up. This background has strengthened my ability to build strong relationships with people from all backgrounds and has taught me the importance of adaptability, skills that help me build an effective and welcoming learning environment.

Through my experience going through IGCSEs & A-Levels myself, as well as working with peers and students, I understand that each student has different needs that requires a flexible and adaptable approach to learning. To produce the best environment for an engaging lesson, I believe that establishing a friendly and trusting relationship with the student is key, ensuring that they feel comfortable asking questions to help solidify their understanding.
Each lesson, I find it useful to go over what the student has gone over in the past week, gauging their understanding of each topic. We can then explore any questions or topics they had any difficulty with; where we go through an explanation of the topic and some worked examples, breaking the problems down into smaller steps that they can then go on to apply to questions on their own.
Reinforcement of previous work is a great way to solidify understanding of difficult concepts, so I like to keep a log of topics and difficult areas we cover each session. Touching back on these areas in later sessions can help boost the student’s confidence in answering these questions and help highlight topics that require extra work.

Great tutor, helped my brother hugely with KS3 maths and physics. He even got moved up a set this term!
Tutored my boy last year and really helped him get through his SATs. Good lad!
Charlie provided maths tutoring lessons to my daughter prior to her maths GCSE exams and throughout the sessions, she slowly gained confidence and was able to grasp more complex mathematical concepts. Charlie was able to adapt to my daughters concerns and re-frame explanations in different ways to help her understand it. Charlie shows strong knowledge and skill in the subjected with an aptitude to help students achieve their potential. Highly recommend.
Charlie used to tutor me during me with GCSE maths and helped me gain confidence in my abilities before my exams. He taught me helpful skills like the most effective ways of using a calculator in paper 2 type questions. He would always make our sessions interactive and engaging by completeing questions and worksheets together. I would reccomend Charlie to other students who are looking for a supportive, organised and efficient tutor who will helps boost your grades and confidence in maths.
Charlie was very patient and would go through the problems with me multiple times until I got it. He explained steps and concepts (especially for statistics) thoroughly and in a way I could easily understand. Thank you so much for all your help!
