About Claudia

Hi, I’m Claudia, a passionate language lover, writer, and tutor with an Honors degree in Afrikaans from the University of Cape Town, an MA in Journalism from Stellenbosch University, and a background in journalism and digital communication. I’ve always believed that language is more than just words, it’s how we connect, express ourselves, and make sense of the world. With experience as both an Afrikaans and English tutor, I understand how to meet students where they are and guide them toward clarity and confidence. I achieved 89% for Afrikaans in Matric, and since then, I’ve combined my love for teaching with my creative skills as a freelance writer and content creator. My work in education, media, and communication helps me bring lessons to life with real-world examples and a sense of curiosity. As a tutor, I’m patient, organized, and adaptable. I’ve worked with learners of all ages, from primary school students building strong language foundations to university students refining their writing and analytical skills. My lessons are designed to make Afrikaans accessible, engaging, and enjoyable. When I’m not tutoring, I work as a freelance writer and talent agent, connecting people and stories, whether that’s through words, music, or community projects. I bring the same energy, empathy, and enthusiasm into my lessons that I do into every part of my work.

About the lesson

I’m passionate about helping students discover that Afrikaans can be both enjoyable and deeply rewarding to learn. My teaching philosophy centres on understanding before memorisation. When students grasp the why behind the language, confidence naturally follows.

I achieved 89% in Afrikaans in Matric and hold an Honours degree in Afrikaans from the University of Cape Town (UCT), which has provided me with a strong academic foundation, as well as insight into the nuances of the language, culture, and literature.

My lessons are offered in Afrikaans and English, allowing me to adapt my teaching language to each student’s comfort and ability level. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced learner, I make sure lessons are engaging, structured, and suited to your needs.

A typical lesson with me includes:

-A short, interactive recap to connect with what you’ve learned before
-Focused work on reading, writing, speaking, or grammar (depending on your goals)
-Practical examples drawn from school or university material
- Personalised feedback, tips, and strategies for improvement

My lessons are aimed at students from primary school through to university level, including:

What makes my approach unique is my ability to simplify complex concepts and make Afrikaans feel accessible and relatable. I create a calm, encouraging space where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and celebrate progress.
