About Amanda

Amanda, Behavioralist and certified dog trainer.
I did the Dog Professions training at the School founded by Michel Koscielniak. The curriculum is inspired by Michel Koscielniak's vast experience with dogs (through his more than 35 years of experience as a dog breeder and behavioral instructor) and people (through his work as a psychotherapist and his application of animal assisted therapy).
Through my training and subsequent experience I am familiar with modern concepts of dog behavior and behavioral problems, puppy selection*, dog breeds and dog breeding, dog genetics and of course dog and puppy training.

About the lesson

Dog education in general :
Dogs are not born with a set of rules to follow and they are unable to read your mind to find out what you want. They have to be taught. There are many ways and methods to do this, but the aim should always be to help the dog develop into a stable, confident and trustworthy animal.

Method :
I work with a method based on positive reinforcement that uses voice and attention only. To put it very simply this means that 95% of the time you will focus on what your dog does right and you'll do this by using your voice, play time and petting. Your dog will come to see training as fun and will automatically do his best to earn more praise and approval. Of course, there's a bit more to it than that, but that's the general idea.

How does it work?
During the first session I observe you and your dog. We talk about what your dog needs, what you want and how this can be achieved. This allows me to develop a plan specifically for you and your dog. I'll also explain in general terms how the training method works and how it can be applied.

During the next sessions we put the plan into motion and start working. In between sessions you will of course be expected to practice.

How many sessions will it take? That all depends on you and your goals. If you want a fix for a specific issue 3 or 4 session will probably do the trick, but if you want perfect obedience it will of course take more time and effort.

* Behavioral session:
Some situations are worth considering:
-Dog cannot stand alone
-He has phobias
-Barks in an untimely manner
-Needs are met everywhere
-Jumps everywhere
-It destroys
-Aggressive with other dogs
….
We will try together to solve the difficulties in order to get a balanced dog!
Any problem with a solution is a matter of work and personal investment.
It’s never too late to improve a situation with your dog.

*Basic obedience :
If your dog definitely needs to be understood by you, he also needs to do practical exercises with you that will allow him to concretely grasp what you expect of him, the position you grant him, etc.
We can put in place a pattern of obedience, favoring the harmonious insertion of the dog in the family and in society.
-No longer pulling the leash
-Feet, sitting, lying, rest, return etc…

*Puppy session:
In order to improve or begin obedience in the presence of other dogs/puppies, to work socialization and/or habituation and to accustom it to different stimuli.
