About Maxim
I am a Doctor of Philology from Sorbonne University and hold a PhD in Classics from KU Leuven. Originally from Russia, I am a native speaker of Russian and have lived in Paris for nearly 15 years, where French became my second native and professional language. Now based in Glasgow, UK, I am conducting research in philology and palaeography at the University of Glasgow. My academic interests focus on Byzantine Greek philology, palaeography, the New Testament manuscript tradition, and the history of Byzantium. Passionate about languages and teaching, I offer private lessons in Ancient Greek, Russian, French, and Church Slavonic at all levels, conducted in English, French, or Russian.

Ancient Greek & Byzantine Greek Tutor – All Levels – Glasgow & Online
Doctor of Philology (Sorbonne University) • PhD in Classics (KU Leuven) • Currently researching philology and palaeography at the University of Glasgow
I offer engaging lessons in Ancient Greek and Byzantine Greek for students of all levels. We cover grammar and syntax, reading Classical texts, Christian authors and Church Fathers, as well as palaeography — working directly with Byzantine manuscripts.
My teaching method combines solid grammatical theory with hands-on textual practice from the very first lesson. You will explore the language from multiple angles: reading medieval manuscripts, detailed grammar study, and careful reading with commentary on ancient and religious texts — including biblical passages, writings of the Holy Fathers, and liturgical material.
Many students particularly enjoy this unique approach as a wonderful way to gain direct access to the spiritual and intellectual world of Orthodox Christianity.
Lessons are available in-person in Glasgow or online, and can be taught in English, French, or Russian.
