About Bernal
I’m an architect and researcher passionate about understanding how landscapes are changing in the face of the climate crisis. Through my MA at Goldsmiths, University of London, I explored how remote sensing and GIS can help us see and question these transformations from new perspectives. Teaching GIS has become a way for me to share that curiosity — to show others how mapping can be both a technical skill and a way of thinking critically about our relationship with the environment. I love guiding students as they discover how maps can tell stories about change, resilience, and care for the world we inhabit.

I teach GIS through a hands-on and creative approach, helping students not only learn how to use mapping tools but also think critically about how spatial data shapes our understanding of the environment. With a background in architecture and urban design, and an MA from Goldsmiths, University of London—where my research focused on remote sensing and environmental mapping—I bring both technical and conceptual perspectives to my lessons. I’ve led workshops on GIS and mapping for students and professionals, encouraging collaborative learning through real-world case studies. My lessons, typically 60–90 minutes long, are tailored to each learner’s level—from beginners exploring GIS for the first time to advanced students developing research or design projects. I aim to make GIS both accessible and thought-provoking, showing how maps can reveal complex stories about the world around us.

Perfect! Bernal is very good at explaining how to use GIS. I was taken through some of the basics so far and the future looks promising with what we can achieve. We reviewed some of my work and the feedback was great, I now have a better idea of what to do to improve my work.
