About Sofia
Teaching exists because I want to share the music I heard growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Do you wonder how traditional tunes flow so naturally between players? I learned through pickin parties and listening to older mentors.
My own training comes from 13 years on the festival circuit. I possess 13 years of experience guiding hobbyists, kids, and grade exam candidates through ABRSM and Trinity requirements. My approach centers on the ear rather than the page.
I help you master tone, rhythm, bowing, and vibrato. We balance those technical basics with the joy of playing by ear. You will find that these foundations make your musical goals feel reachable.

Players reach a point where they can hear the melody clearly in their minds. Is it time to translate that internal sound into perfect intonation on your strings? I bring my background in traditional playing to help you focus on your tone production and bowing.
My 13 years of experience means I understand the common hurdles students face with spiccato or staccato techniques. I offer recorded playback of tricky passages so you have a reference for your home practice. Think of me as a guide who balances rigorous exam prep with the soulful nature of our shared tradition.
We keep things organic yet structured. Success is simply a matter of listening closely.
