About Thomas

I have university qualifications in Art History, Social Sciences (Sociology & Politics) with post-graduate studies in Education. My prior career experience includes, Art World, Corporate Trainer, Business Eng. Teacher, International LME/C&G sales, market development and key account management. I also have accreditations in sports coaching and prior experience as a fitness instructor, youth activities coordinator and personal development coach.

Now in my 50's and having worked temporary, casual and seasonal blue-collar jobs when more professional work hasn’t been forthcoming, I identify as an, Independent Artist.

This includes being a Singer/Songwriter (see below course), socio-political commentator, blogger, podcaster and multimedia content creator. I still take an active interest in my personal development and I hope to make good use of my education, skills and experience by consulting, mentoring and generally assisting others in their learning.

About the lesson

The first lesson is free and dedicated to giving you the opportunity to explain to me what you want to achieve from lessons. I will then let you know if I can help you achieve your goals and how. You can then decide if lessons with me might suit you with an option to cancel at any time.

I qualify the interests, expectations and goals of students so I can provide relevant content. I outline objectives and desired outcomes including mutual expectations, so students understand how to apply themselves and any concerns can be clarified.

I facilitate an interactive learning process so students actively participate in their learning rather than receiving only, direct teaching.

I encourage questions so students acquire a meaningful understanding of the subject at hand. I also employ reflective teaching to ensure students have absorbed and contextualised new or disparate information.

I'm not available to educate or tutor school students. My prior educator experience is predominantly with adults incl. business and creative professionals.

Formal studies withstanding, I advocate for the importance of employing personal intuition and lateral or abstract thinking to acquire a more comprehensive understanding of a given subject. This can require, life experience, developed cognitive skills and an appreciation for personal growth and awareness, metaphysics or existential philosophy. Consequently, more advanced and/or (emotionally) mature age students are likely to benefit from and enjoy my lessons.

Nevertheless, as I've mentioned, I do qualify/gauge and attempt to reflect the needs of students so while I encourage development of the aforementioned attributes, I also endeavor to clarify the complex (incl. sophistry) and keep things simple or at the least, sensible.
