About Stephanie
I have been working as a professional artist (making drawings/collages, paintings, and sculpture) for over 25 years. I received my BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and my MFA from Yale. Alongside my studio practice, I've taught (since 1999) at a prestigious range of art schools and universities, including the Rhode Island School of Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, Princeton, Penn State, and Ohio University.
Additionally, I have served as juror for Scholastic Art awards and BFA and MFA admissions at both art schools and university programs as well as juror for residency programs.
As a professional artist and educator (tenured art Professor) for over 25 years, I deeply understand the challenges that art students and artists confront at every stage of their careers. Not only have I helped students and artist colleagues, I’ve been through it myself! I'm known as a very knowledgeable, yet warm and accessible teacher. I especially enjoy working directly with students to help them achieve their individual goals.

I can work with students of all levels and develop projects and lesson plans according to your needs and goals. I love working with students to give them the skills and techniques that will make them better artists, help them express themselves creatively, and just enjoy the process! I can set up a structured series of assignments based on specific skills you would like to learn, or we can develop a weekly plan that changes based on what you are interested in focusing on, with individual projects that are thematic.

- Thank you Windy! Windy is a great student to work with, and I am looking forward to continuing to work with her in the future-- it's a pleasure!Stephanie's response :
Perfect! Highly recommend Stephanie! She's warm and friendly, non-judgmental (which is important to a beginner like me), is organized and prepared for our lessons, and just makes me feel comfortable despite my anxiety around learning a new skill. Stephanie's experience and background allows her to bring a variety of opportunities to our lessons; I'm loving my class with her!
- I love working with Nancy! She's open to learning new things and has been very dedicated to learning more about how to draw. Thank you Nancy ;)Stephanie's response :
Perfect! Excellent teacher, very encouraging and an expert in her field.
- Thank you! It’s a pleasure!Stephanie's response :
Perfect! After trying to teach myself to paint with oil paint for over a year, I was lucky enough to find Stephanie Snider. How do these meetings happen in the churn of the world? I am so lucky. In a few weeks, she has taught me about mediums, surfaces, brushes, and answered all my sometimes bizarre beginner questions. She demonstrates as she explains, and she encourages that one experiment with mediums and surfaces etc., even at this stage. My favorite aspect of these lessons is that Stephanie knows about historical (and contemporary) painting techniques, as well, of course, as the history of art, and it's wonderful to talk to someone who can, for example, talk through what Diebenkorn was doing with perspective, or the beauty of grays NOT not created from black and white, etc. These lessons have changed my thinking and my approach and I can't thank her enough for her intelligence, humor, and knowledge.
- Thanks so much! It has been a joy to work with you— your comments mean so much.Stephanie's response :
Perfect! What a fun class!!!
Stephanie is an easy going, excellent teacher.
I've learned so much about drawing with colored pencils.
What I liked most was, whatever Stephanie demonstrated in class, she would take pictures and send it to you, so you could use it as a reference.
Stephanie was also willing to talk about water color, acrylic and oil paints, which I was also interested in.
I wish there was a way to attach the picture I completed in class - amazing for a novice.
Thank you so much Stephanie. I will definitely be taking more classes in the summer.- Paula has been a great student to work with-- she is very dedicated to learning as much as she can about improving her skills with colored pencil drawing, and she has made so much progress! It's great to see, and I really enjoy our lessons together.Stephanie's response :
Perfect! Very helpful

I've been taking drawing lessons from Stephanie for the past few months. She is a wonderful teacher who truly meets you where you are in your artistic practice. She's helped me build foundational skills while tailoring each lesson to what I want to work on, making lessons both structured and personal.
Stephanie is incredibly generous in sharing her vast knowledge of artists and references—she always seems to have the perfect recommendation or example to illustrate a concept or inspire new directions. Her guidance has genuinely helped me grow as an artist, and I look forward to our weekly lessons.
I highly recommend Stephanie. She is a warm, insightful teacher, and I feel incredibly fortunate to work with her.As an art director, I have commissioned Stephanie's drawing and lettering work for multiple projects. She brings extensive research and professionalism to her work and I know she brings this same high level of care to her students. She is agile and intuitive, adjusting her approach based on each student's needs. Her extensive knowledge of art history and a variety of drawing techniques make her an outstanding and sought-after teacher.
Though I wasn’t a student through Superprof, I’ve had the joy of learning from Stephanie during drawing sessions woven through travels—moments shaped by the quiet discipline of Indian miniature painting that she has studied and her reverence for exquisite detail. Her guidance has refined not only my hand but my eye, revealing the subtle architecture beneath form and gesture. She teaches not through rote instruction, but through presence—inviting you into a deeper way of seeing. With her, technique becomes poetry, and tradition becomes a living conversation. If you’re seeking a teacher who opens more than just the page, who opens the world—you’ve found her.
I was a student of Stephanie's in a series of continuing education classes. I would call her style enthusiastic and supportive, meeting her students where they are and helping them grow their skills. I left feeling so inspired and encouraged to go further.
I simply cannot think of a better person to teach drawing than Stephanie. Not only does she have deep knowledge of the craft and art history, she is also a highly experienced educator. She is patient, fun-loving, and open to all types of learners and students. Drawing takes courage and Stephanie really understands how to simultaneously support and advise students toward their goals.
