About Gemma

I am currently working full-time having completed my double degree in Commerce (Finance major) and PPE (Politics, Philosophy, and Economics). I love to read and have a proclivity for language and communication, enabling me to assist with a range of subjects and skills, such as resume building and interview preparation. My technical expertise has developed in Finance and Economics, both of which I can assist at secondary and university levels. Outside of studies, I love to play soccer and either cook or try new restaurants with friends!

About the lesson

I take a personalized approach to tutoring by molding my lesson plans around your assessment requirements (I do my own research, whether it be into VCE/HSC/IB or other). I am adaptable to your learning style and will spend our first session gaining insight into your specific areas of struggle and adapt my teaching to target and overcome these setbacks. I am an encouraging, attentive and flexible tutor who takes great personal care in the success of my students. Let’s do this!

Below are some more details about my approach:
- I begin my teaching journey with any student/parent with a 30-minute free-of-charge call to discuss the current level of understanding, knowledge gaps and what goals/outcomes you hope to achieve with my help.
- I then build a teaching plan over an agreed time frame (e.g. 4 weeks, 8 weeks). This will give us a structured approach to lessons. The goal of this is to see what outcomes we hope to achieve from the work we put in.
- I have found that 1-hour lessons twice per week are most effective, but am happy to increase/decrease this based on the student's learning style.
- My approach to teaching is highly adaptive. I prioritise engagement and access at the forefront of my lessons, as I believe a student will find success in their studies when they find the topic interesting and the challenge attainable. I understand that different individuals understand concepts uniquely, and so I find creative ways to help students connect with their task at hand whether it be digesting technical concepts, preparing for an exam, improving essay writing or speaking ability. The goal is not just to pass but to excel by unlocking a deeper level of engagement with the subject matter.
