About Avi

Hi, I’m Avi, a second-year BSc Economics student at the University of Southampton. I achieved an A* in A-Level Economics and have experience tutoring A-Level Maths and Economics.

I enjoy tutoring because I know how frustrating it can be when a topic just does not click at first. Sometimes students do not need things made more complicated — they just need someone to explain it clearly, patiently and in a way that actually makes sense to them.

My aim is to help students feel more confident, not judged. I like breaking difficult topics into simple steps, using examples, and showing students how to approach exam questions properly. I also focus on exam technique, because understanding the content is important, but knowing how to show that understanding in an exam is what helps students improve their grades.

Outside of tutoring, I am involved in cricket leadership at university, which has helped me become a better communicator and mentor. Alongside academic support, I can also offer guidance for students thinking about life after school, including university, apprenticeships, CVs, personal statements and interviews.

About the lesson

My lessons are clear, structured and tailored to each student’s goals. I usually begin by identifying the student’s current level, exam board, target grade and weaker topics, then build lessons around the areas that will make the biggest difference.

For Economics, I focus on understanding key theory, applying real-world examples, structuring strong essays and improving evaluation. For Maths, I use step-by-step explanations, worked examples and exam-style questions to build confidence and reduce common mistakes.

A typical lesson is 60 minutes, although I can adapt this depending on the student’s needs. Lessons usually include a quick recap, teaching the main topic, guided practice, exam-style questions and clear next steps for independent revision.

I am a second-year BSc Economics student at the University of Southampton, achieved an A* in A-Level Economics, and have experience tutoring A-Level Maths and Economics. I can support GCSE Maths, A-Level Economics, study skills, exam technique and school-leaver guidance, including university applications, apprenticeships, CVs, personal statements and interviews.
