Music is far more than learning notes—it is a way of expressing who we are, understanding others, and growing as human beings. I believe that every person carries musical potential, and with thoughtful guidance, dedication, and joy in the process, that gift can flourish beautifully.
As an award-winning flutist and educator with 18+ years of teaching experience, I offer a whole-musician approach that develops not only technique, but also artistry, confidence, creativity, and a genuine love for music.
My teaching is holistic, healthy, and highly personalized, focusing on:
• healthy posture and body awareness
• natural breathing and air support
• strong technique and efficient movement
• beautiful tone development
• musical expression and interpretation
• performance confidence and stage presence
• creativity through improvisation, musical games, and playing by ear
• chamber music, recordings, and collaborative music-making
My pedagogical philosophy integrates elements of Edgar Willems pedagogy, Waldorf Education principles, the Alexander Technique, and the Pilafian/Sheridan breathing approach—supporting each student’s musical and personal development in a healthy and inspiring way.
Lessons are tailored to each individual and may include:
• flute lessons for beginners through advanced/professional level
• recorder lessons for beginners
• repertoire from classical to contemporary and other genres
• music theory, listening skills, music history, and artistic understanding
• preparation for performances, auditions, competitions, or simply playing for joy
I welcome children, teenagers, adults, hobby musicians, and serious students who are ready to learn with curiosity, dedication, and joy.
My goal is simple: to help each student become not only a better player—but a confident, expressive, and fulfilled musician.

Bila sem učenka Pije v glasbeni šoli Sevnica. Njene ure so bile zmeram zelo zanimive, nasmejane in razigrane.
Pija was my flute teacher for four years. She laid a solid foundation for me, shared a vast amount of practical knowledge, and taught me how to make music and apply what I learned in practice. The groundwork I received from her still benefits me today on my musical journey.
In her teaching, she wasn't just an excellent teacher but also a role model and a talented inspiration. Through her professional approach and a mix of fun, she brought me closer to music and the instrument that still means the world to me today. Having such a teacher was a great privilege. I can only thank her, because it's thanks to her that I am where I am today
- ZalaI met Pija in Slovenia, where I joined her summer flute school. She is a great teacher and a really kind person! She knows how to motivate you, teaches you a lot, and makes even difficult or abstract things easy to understand :)
I also went to her performance. Pija is like a fairy who, with her love for the flute and music, charms the audience with her beautiful playing.🪈
I’m very happy I met her and had the chance to work with her, because she taught me a lot about music and also about lifeI studied flute with Pija for six years. She had a very unique style of teaching, so not only did I learn a lot about solo and chamber music, but we also focused on breathing and relaxation exercises, open posture and confidence. Lessons with her were fun, creative, playful and never the same. She always found new ideas and techniques to help me improve and push me forward. So thank you Pija for helping me find joy in playing the flute and being such an important part of why I fell in love with music.
I’ve had the pleasure of hearing Pija Hočevar perform many times and the sincerest pleasure of hosting her in my recital series. Her flute performances are emotional, producing brilliant and rich sounds. Her flute tells stories, her music penetrates and her audiences feel her stories to the bone. Pija is a naturally confident flutist and plays with flair and humor and dazzles her listeners. She’s naturally curious and embraces the avant-garde, bringing a nuanced style, subtlety, grace, and balance to the most complex compositions. Her flute performances command attention, she is fearless and sometimes mischievous. Pija loves performing and loves engaging her audience.

Studying with Pija has been a wonderful experience. She is patient, supportive, and always knows how to explain things in a way that makes sense. Her lessons are full of energy, creativity, and encouragement. I improved not only my flute playing, but also my confidence, concentration, and understanding of music. She makes every lesson enjoyable and inspiring, and you can feel how much she truly cares about her students. I would highly recommend learning with her.
Pija was my teacher for a year and in that time i began to love playing flute even more than i thought it was possible. I loved our lessons, she always supported me and she really knew how to give me her knowledge. She is a really remarkable teacher and person.
Pija takes a holistic approach to teaching. She focuses on all aspects of playing an instrument and music, devotes her attention to each student individually, and tailors her teaching method to suit each student’s needs. I highly recommend her.
Taking lessons with my teacher Pija was one of the best experiences in my life. I am grateful for every minute she dedicated to me, to become such a successful flutist. She has given me a lot of
knowledge, fun moments, and most of all joy in learning about music. She took me to many competitions - to Croatia, Italy, Serbia and
she was satisfied with every performance, whatever the result.
The trio she put together is the one that sticks in my mind the most. Me, Zala and Anja - at first we didn't know each other that well, but as we rehearsed we became more and more connected
and we are still in touch now.
I am so grateful for everything you have done for me.Pija is one of those rare people whose talent, dedication, and kindness leave a lasting impression. She is an outstanding musician, an inspiring teacher, and someone who gives her whole heart to what she does. Her deep musical understanding, passion, and ability to connect with people help bring out the best in others. What stands out most is not only her artistry, but also her warmth, sincerity, and genuine desire to share music and help others grow.
I learned so much from working with Pija. She helped me solve problems in my playing that I had been struggling with for a long time, and she did it in such a clear, positive, and encouraging way. What I appreciated most was how deeply she understands each student and how she knows exactly how to help you grow—not just as a player, but also as a musician and person. I left feeling inspired and excited to keep playing.”
