About Maryann

Maryann Castronovo is an award-winning writer and editor. She spent the first part of her career in New York City and Los Angeles, working for Sony Pictures Television and Film as a screenplay Story Editor. After having two boys, she wrote a humorous weekly newspaper column in Los Angeles and San Diego that ran for eight years. As both a writer and editor, she uses her unique background in journalism, screenwriting, and storytelling to help writers put ideas into stories that are at once relatable, understandable, and connect with people on an emotional level. For the past 13 years, Maryann has helped high school and college students with their college essay-writing process. She holds a Specialized High School College Counseling Certificate from the University of California, San Diego.

About the lesson

First, we will go over your background, and you'll answer some key questions about your life and ambitions. From this work, we will discover some potential topics you could use for your personal statement. Then, I will guide you in strategically weaving your personal narrative to showcase your strengths, passions, and ambitions effectively so it will connect with a reader on a personal level.
