About Louis

I'm Louis, an experienced private tutor specialising in Philosophy at Degree Level. I help students who are struggling to achieve top marks by addressing common challenges in essay writing and philosophical understanding.

I have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge for philosophy masters courses, and I am currently doing an MPhil specialising in the philosophy of religion at Oxford.

During my own Philosophy degree at King’s College London, I struggled to score above 70% despite working hard. Over time, I learned to work smarter by understanding exactly what markers expect and refining my essay-writing approach. This effort led to a 1st class degree with a 74% average in my final year, including top marks in Metaphysics and Medieval Philosophy.

I now use these insights to help my students succeed, saving them time and frustration by teaching the techniques that helped me excel. Whether you need to refine your essay-writing skills, gain a deeper understanding of philosophical concepts and thinkers, or get your target grade in Degree or A Level Philosophy, I’m here to guide you.

I have expertise in the following subjects:
- Philosophy of Religion
- History of Philosophy, including: Ancient Philosophy, Medieval Philosophy, Modern Philosophy.
- Continental Philosophy
- Analytic Philosophy
- Political Philosophy
- Ethics
- Metaphysics
- Epistemology

Louis's response
Serenity is a careful listener who clearly expressed her points of confusion with respect to the theory that she was having troubles with understanding. This made it a much easier process to help her to come to understand Aristotle's problem and solution to logical fatalism.

Louis helped my son achieve a grade 7 (possible 8) from a grade 5 prediction in Philosophy and Religious Studies.
`He was honest with how much support my son needed and gave appropriate homework and practice questions.
Louis was always punctual with lessons and came well prepared on the topics where required.
His sweet and caring nature also to ask how the exam went and to find out results on results day! He is always approachable for any questions and is happy to help beyond his expertise.

I taught and advised Louis in all three years of his Philosophy BA. Louis' approach to studying philosophy was thoughtful, independent and thorough. I'm sure his teaching will be similar. He communicates well about complex conceptual questions. He achieved a first-class degree by combining his knowledge, understanding and passion for philosophy with careful attention to the specific demands of his assignments. That's a great combination to be able to pass on.
