About Joel

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and have spent the last 8 years teaching piano to students of various ages and levels. My journey as a teacher has been shaped by a belief in patient guidance and creative methods, helping each student find their own musical voice through structured, engaging lessons. Beyond teaching, I have accompanied choirs, performed at recitals, and composed beginner-friendly piano arrangements. These experiences enrich my teaching with real-world perspective and allow me to provide tips for both solo performance and ensemble collaboration. I integrate my practical knowledge to help students play with both precision and expression. Teaching piano is not just about building skill—it's about nurturing confidence, self-discipline, and a love for music. I strive to create a warm, supportive environment where students feel motivated and encouraged. My goal is for each pianist to leave their lesson feeling accomplished, inspired, and eager to return to the keys.

About the lesson

Every piano lesson begins with core fundamentals that build strong technique and hand coordination. We focus on posture, finger strength, and basic rhythm to ensure students gain control and comfort on the keyboard. Early lessons also include note recognition, simple pieces, and ear training to develop listening and playing instincts simultaneously. As students progress, we expand into music theory, scales, sight-reading, and expressive phrasing. Lessons adapt to individual learning styles while integrating a variety of genres such as classical, pop, and jazz depending on the student's interest. Repertoire is thoughtfully selected to be both challenging and rewarding, motivating students to continue growing. For advanced learners, lessons target nuance, interpretation, and performance readiness. Emphasis is placed on refining technique, exploring complex compositions, and building stamina. Whether preparing for exams, performances, or personal goals, each lesson is customised to foster confident musicianship and a lasting appreciation for the instrument.
