About Lucy

Hi! I'm someone who genuinely loves English, not just as a subject, but as a way of thinking, expressing, and understanding the world. I achieved a Band 6 in Extension English, and that journey taught me how complex, creative, and rewarding studying English can be. But I also know it’s not always easy - sometimes it’s the essay structure, sometimes it’s analysis, and sometimes it’s just confidence. That’s why I want to tutor. I want to help students feel less overwhelmed and more empowered. In our sessions, I don’t just explain concepts, rather I break them down with you, step by step, until they make sense. Whether you're struggling with textual analysis, creative writing, or exam pressure, I tailor our time to your goals. I focus on clarity, structure, and expression, all while making sure you feel supported. I’m here not just to teach, but to guide and encourage you, so that English becomes something you can enjoy and succeed in.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is centered on understanding each student's unique concerns and learning style. I begin every session by identifying the specific area the student feels least confident about - whether it's grammar, essay structure, reading comprehension, or speaking fluency. Rather than rushing to fix the issue, I first break it down into manageable parts so we can understand why it feels difficult. From there, I use targeted strategies: for grammar, that might mean practicing patterns through writing and discussion rather than rote drills; for essays, we might walk through how to unpack a prompt, build a thesis, and outline ideas with clarity and flow.

I believe in active learning, so I ask questions that lead students to discover insights themselves rather than just giving answers. I also integrate real-world content, such as news articles, short stories, or clips of spoken English, so students can see how language works in context. I encourage reflection and revision, not just for writing but for how students think about their learning. Above all, my goal is to help them feel more capable and independent, so they leave each session with not just more knowledge, but more confidence and curiosity.
