About Dana
Graduate of Ball State University, 2025. I have been playing tuba for 14 years and have experience on the collegiate level playing and teaching low brass.
Experienced in band, orchestral, small chamber, jazz, and solo performance. Freelance musician & educator of the Indianapolis & Muncie areas. I have experience teaching beginning brass, all the way to coaching peers & younger collegiate players.
Currently, I just finished up my first year teaching within public school systems, and am starting year two as a Band Technician with the Randolph County High School’s Marching Band.
I believe all practice sessions should be recorded and listened back to. If you are not happy with how it sounds, do something different. This method has brought my own playing and educating to higher levels. I was bottom chair in all my collegiate ensembles, but within two years, I became the Principal Tubist in the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, and ended my last year with being the Principal Tubist in the top band & orchestras at the same time. Self-reflection and improvement is only one step of the lessons progression.

My lessons focus on breathing technique, sound before sight, fundamentals, and pitch correction. I believe that once you have the basics down, you can learn anything you want. Patience is a virtue, and a needed one in the academic world of music.
I want you to sound good, and be confident in your playing. Messing up is all part of the process, but you should never make the same mistake twice. Start with a slow approach, and speed things up once it is mastered at the slower pace.
