About Oisin

I am based in Belfast and am finishing my degree in Computer Engineering this June, with plans to begin a PhD at Queen’s University Belfast in October. I studied at Lumen Christi College in Derry, where I achieved 11 GCSEs at grade A and 3 A-Levels at grade B. My academic background has given me strong knowledge across Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Music, and I enjoy helping others make real progress in these areas.

I aim to bring a calm, reliable, and well-prepared approach to every lesson. I know that students respond differently to different teaching styles, so I adapt sessions to suit the individual while still keeping a clear focus on progress and results. Whether a student needs help strengthening core understanding, preparing for important exams, or improving confidence, I work to make lessons productive, encouraging, and worthwhile.

Alongside academic tutoring, I also teach piano from beginner to advanced level. I hold ABRSM Piano Grades 1–6 and Music Theory Grades 1–5, with Merit or Distinction throughout. Overall, I want students and parents to feel assured that they are working with someone serious about teaching, committed to high standards, and genuinely interested in helping each learner do well.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is structured, supportive, and strongly focused on helping students improve both their immediate performance and their long-term independence. For GCSE and A-Level subjects, I mainly focus on CCEA exams and use methods that are proven to help students succeed. This includes early use of exam-style questions, close attention to mark schemes, and teaching clear techniques for answering questions effectively. I also place a strong emphasis on giving students the tools, habits, and understanding they need to become confident self-guided learners over time.

I put a particularly strong focus on exam preparation, so each student receives tailored support based on their subject, current level, and exam dates. Lessons are shaped around individual needs, whether that means building weak foundations, improving confidence in difficult topics, or pushing for top grades through targeted practice. Academic tutoring sessions would usually last either 1 hour or 1.5 hours depending on the student and their circumstances.

For piano lessons, I can teach from complete beginner level through to more advanced players. I focus on technique, reading music, rhythm, theory, and building overall confidence at the instrument. Piano lessons would usually last 1 hour. Students would need access to either a piano or a keyboard for lessons, although I do have a piano at my home, so that can also be used where suitable.

I am a Computer Engineering student with strong academic experience in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Music. I also hold ABRSM Piano Grades 1–6 and Music Theory Grades 1–5, with Merit or Distinction throughout. My lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-Level students, younger learners needing support, and piano students of a wide range of ages and levels.
