About Kora
I have helped hundreds of students through the process of developing their own thesis and original hooks. Once you acquire your own writing voice and relationship with language, no matter the prompt, you can write confidently. It’s a step-by-step process you can master. You will also learn to master editing and revising skills, identify logical fallacies, validate a claim and write a strong conclusion. APPS only work if you know how to write in the first place. Otherwise, how will you know you're submitting what you actually meant to say?
Learning how to understand what you read can be the most challenging part of any English, science, or even math class. And if teachers aren’t careful, it can be the most boring and discouraging part as well. I will teach you grounding strategies to get you out of your head and into the page. Not onto the page but into the page. Becoming the author helps you look for key phrases and deeper meaning, unveiling hidden wisdom that others will miss. You will become annotation masters! Ensuring you won’t get bored and leaving you feeling confident!

My approach to teaching is based upon the Universal Design for Learning with an understanding students learn best when they know you care and when you guide them to connect that learning to something they care about. A typical lesson starts with a writing warm-up to introduce new vocabulary based upon required reading, a historical context video snippet, and a reflective writing piece that incorporates the week’s grammar or syntax lesson – I alternate weeks based on cognitive neural science. Then share. Then based on needed areas for tutoring we will use that exercise and transition those principles into practice and application of targeted area.
I provide a Model-Practice-Reflect Approach to writing. So, students will be part of the experience through my think-share-reflect approach. Resolving concerns, building confidence in their own ideas and developing their own voice. I use graphic organizers that alleviate stress, organize thoughts, and structure content. Students learn how to write college essays, TELPAS essays, argumentative essays, personal narratives, and professional correspondence.
I provide Sheltered Instruction for non-native English learners. Having taught 14–18-year-old beginner level students, and speaking a fair amount of Spanish myself, we share both languages and gain connection to grow rapport and understanding. This builds relevance, long-term memory, and helps relieve stress for “perfection.” Once students are at ease, then the necessary mind shift can occur to acquire new language skills.
