About Angelica

I have a decade of teaching, research, curriculum development, and policy experience in interdisciplinary social sciences, international relations, politics, and English.

I graduated summa cum laude from UC Berkeley with a degree in English and Peace & Conflict Studies, studied creative writing at the University of Cambridge, and completed my MPhil in International Relations at the University of Oxford.

I have taught, advised, and developed curriculum for UC Berkeley students, led a classroom of thirty inmates at San Quentin State Prison, and worked as a freelance columnist and copy-editor. I've even provided the occasional history lesson while someone awaited a meeting with President Obama, while working in the Office of Political Strategy in the West Wing of the White House.

I'm an experienced tutor, specializing in English, History, and Politics/Government (reading comprehension, essay writing, test prep, etc.). I work best with middle school, high school, and college-aged students, but also have experience working with adult learners.

I also have expertise in AP Math courses (I received a perfect score on my AP Calculus exam in high school, despite not having a math-focused career path!).

About the lesson

I believe that each student is unique in how they best absorb information, but that every student is capable of finding even the most challenging (or stereotypically "boring") topics interesting and exciting, if approached correctly.

I approach each topic differently, depending on the individual student's skill level, experience, and needs. I first locate and emphasize a student's academic and learning strengths for every lesson -- for example, if a student is a known "visual" learner, but struggles with memorization, I incorporate visual aids to provide unique and effective memory tools that are handy during tests.

Every student's first consultation meeting is free of charge!

Payment for each subsequent lesson/meeting is due when the lesson begins, and is billed by the hour. Payment can be made by cash, check, or through Venmo.
