About Christopher
As a jazz musician, I have had the pleasure and honor of sharing the stage with heavyweights such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Kris Davis, Gretchen Parlato, and Melissa Aldana, and performing in storied venues like the Monterey Jazz Festival. I am also a bandleader, composer, and session musician with extensive studio experience.
As a rock musician, I play with the band Joseon, which is becoming a fixture in the LA scene, as well as in New York. I act as the bassist, the sometimes-guitarist, and contribute backing vocals to the live performances. Behind the scenes, I arrange and help write.
As a world musician, I have played with legendary Chinese traditional musician Yazhi Guo, as well as Armenian fusion musicians Emmanuel Hovhannisyan (duduk) and Artashes Sinanyan (percussion).
All this to say, whatever your questions are, I most likely have an answer. My strengths have always been my ability to do many different things, and that skill is what I strive to imbue my students with through a deeper connection and understanding of the instrument.

Each student deserves a specific approach, but my general philosophy is about connecting what you want to play with what you can play. While theory and knowledge is an important part of my lessons, I want my students to develop an original voice. I deeply emphasize singing what you play and learning repertoire and history in addition to fundamentals like technique and exercises. I am a jazz musician, but also have extensive experience in rock, R&B, indie, and world music idioms, and encourage my students to pursue what they want to learn.
