About Tessa

With 6 years of teaching and professional music experience, I am a passionate violin tutor committed to helping students develop technical skill, musical expression, and self-confidence. I teach school and college students at all levels, from beginners learning foundational techniques to advanced learners preparing for recitals, competitions, and exams.

One of the most meaningful milestones in my career has been guiding students from struggling with posture, technique, or stage confidence to performers capable of playing with precision, emotion, and musical interpretation.

My teaching emphasises building strong technical foundations, including posture, finger placement, bowing technique, rhythm, tone, and intonation, while also nurturing creativity, musical interpretation, and expressive performance. I incorporate music theory, sight-reading, listening exercises, and performance practice to provide students with a complete and well-rounded understanding of music.

Lessons are customised to each student’s pace, goals, and learning style, creating a patient, supportive, and inspiring environment where students are encouraged to explore, express themselves, and achieve their full potential. Teaching violin allows me to cultivate confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love for music in every student I teach.

About the lesson

I teach violin using a methodology grounded in motivation, communication, creativity, and integrity, aimed at creating musicians who are technically proficient, expressive, and confident. Lessons combine structured technical practice, creative exercises, improvisation, and performance preparation, personalised for each student’s goals and abilities.

Motivation drives learning. I help students set clear goals, monitor progress, and celebrate milestones, fostering self-confidence, perseverance, and a lifelong passion for music. Communication ensures lessons are interactive, collaborative, and supportive, providing students a safe space to ask questions, share challenges, and explore musical ideas.

Creativity is integrated throughout every lesson. Improvisation, composition, and interpretation exercises allow students to develop a personal artistic voice and deepen their emotional connection to music. Integrity reinforces disciplined, responsible practice and respect for learning, forming habits that promote consistent growth and long-term success.

Alongside violin, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, rhythm exercises, and basic piano, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of music while developing both technical and artistic skills.
