About Akane

Hi! I'm Akane, a second year microbiology student in Canada! I've always loved tutoring and working together with people to improve upon our skills! I was previously pursuing a major in linguistics so I have additional insight into perfecting pronunciation, language in social contexts, and the language learning process! Through being a language tutor/partner for 2 years, I've learned a lot about how to teach in an encouraging and positive environment and how to make learning a fun process! I've worked with people from a variety of ages and backgrounds and always enjoy the connections I make through teaching/tutoring! Let's work towards your goals and enjoy the journey, not just the destination!

About the lesson

I teach students of all ages with beginner's and conversational Japanese. I can teach basic reading and writing as well. My teaching technique involves a student-focused and goal oriented approach. What do you want to improve on? What are your personal and/or academic goals? I will collaborate with you to achieve those goals and create a positive environment for you to learn and enjoy doing it. I don't have a one size fits all lesson plan as every student is different and has different goals/methods of learning. However, a typical lesson would start with you telling me what you'd like to work on/improve on or any questions you have about the language and ends with us reviewing what we just learned/practiced. We can spend the lesson going over work you have already done and practicing questions or concepts together. I believe immersion is important so I will talk in Japanese a lot! Even if you don't understand at first, that's ok! It's good to hear it as often as you can! I am ethnically Japanese and have experience in Japan so I can help provide additional context that can help enhance your understanding of Japanese and make you sound like a natural! Never be afraid to make mistakes or ask questions with me! It's the best way to learn!
