About Selina

Hi! I’m a Los Angeles–based film composer, orchestrator, arranger, music director, vocalist, and pianist. I graduated from Berklee College of Music on scholarship with a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Scoring, with a focus in Electronic Production and Design, along with a minor in Conducting.

My work centers on storytelling through music, especially film scoring, orchestration, and hybrid orchestral production. I have composed original cues recorded at Berklee’s Shames Family Scoring Stage with the Berklee Motion Picture Orchestra, where I worked directly in a professional scoring session environment, preparing scores in Dorico, building Pro Tools templates, and coordinating with live musicians and engineers during the recording process.

I also composed and produced multiple film rescoring projects, including a full set of cues for The Wild Robot, created entirely in Cubase using a combination of orchestral libraries, MIDI programming, and hybrid sound design techniques. These projects allowed me to develop a strong workflow in DAWs such as Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton, and Dorico, moving from initial sketching to final mix-ready cues.

In addition to scoring, I have hands-on experience in recording environments and production workflows. I have prepared Pro Tools sessions for orchestral recording, managed click tracks and stems for live ensemble sessions, and worked closely with musicians in both studio and scoring-stage settings. I also have experience in sound design, including UI audio creation for interactive media and foley training through a masterclass with Joanna Fang.

Beyond composition, I served as Music Director of the Audire Soundtrack Collective, where I led orchestral and choral performances of visual media music, and I was also President of the World Music Scoring Association, where I helped build a supportive community for emerging composers and musicians.

My musical foundation includes classical piano training from a young age and vocal performance experience as a soprano, including advanced training under Czech opera singer Jana Jonášová. I also performed as a soloist in international settings, including Berklee’s collaboration project "The Kiss" at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Spain.

My experience working with children began through teaching and mentoring my younger sister, who is 10 years younger than I am. This taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and tailoring lessons to each student's learning style. I enjoy incorporating games and achievement-based activities to keep students engaged, and I have seen how positive encouragement and achievable goals can build confidence and foster a lifelong love of music. I also teach in bilingual settings, offering instruction in both English and Mandarin (中文) to support clarity, comfort, and deeper understanding.

I strive to make music feel enjoyable, accessible, and inspiring. Helping each student build strong fundamentals while discovering their own creative voice and confidence, whether they are playing their first notes or developing original compositions.

Above all, I believe music is a universal language of emotion and connection, and I am deeply committed to sharing that through every lesson.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on film scoring, composition, music production, sound design, orchestration, and rescore projects for film and media. I work with students who want to build both creative and technical skills to tell stories through music.

Depending on each student’s level and goals, lessons may include scoring to picture, creating rescores of existing film scenes, thematic development, harmony, arranging, and orchestration for both live ensemble and virtual instruments. We also explore music production in Cubase, Ableton, or Pro Tools, along with sound design, MIDI programming, and building expressive mockups.

A key part of my teaching is hands-on practice. Students regularly create original cues, reimagine existing scenes through rescores, and develop orchestration exercises that strengthen their understanding of texture, emotion, and structure in music.

My goal is to help students develop strong composition and orchestration skills while learning how to think like a film composer, connecting music directly to storytelling, emotion, and visual narrative.
