About Youna

I am a biochemistry undergraduate with an IB and AP background and 2 years of tutoring experience, specializing in biology, chemistry, and math for middle and high school students, both in-person (Montreal or Austin) and online.

My teaching focuses on building strong conceptual understanding first, followed by guided practice, review of problem areas, and repeated exercises. I emphasize active recall and exam-focused strategies, helping students not only understand the material but also perform with confidence under exam conditions. I am also skilled in stress management techniques, guiding students to stay calm, focused, and motivated during challenging assignments and exams.

Having gone through both IB and AP programs, I bring extensive experience in personalized guidance, study strategies, and exam preparation. I prioritize patience, clear explanations, and adaptability, tailoring each lesson to the student’s pace and learning style.

My goal is to strengthen understanding, build confidence, and empower students to succeed academically while managing stress effectively.

About the lesson

Teaching approach: I begin with conceptual teaching and a brief revision of previous material to build a strong foundation. Then, we move on to practice problems, identifying areas of struggle and reviewing them thoroughly. I emphasize active recall and repeated practice to reinforce understanding. Having gone through both IB and AP programs, I bring extensive experience in exam preparation and effective study strategies.

Typical lesson flow:

Concept explanation and quick revision.

Guided practice problems.

Review and address struggles.

More practice with feedback.

Summary and exam-focused tips.

What sets me apart: I combine IB and AP experience with university-level biochemistry knowledge, making complex topics intuitive while preparing students for exams with confidence.

Lessons are ideal for: Students wanting to strengthen understanding in biology, chemistry, or math, excel in IB, AP, or high school exams, or receive a personalized, active learning approach tailored to their needs.
