About Coltan
I know firsthand that learning doesn’t always come easily. In high school, biology was actually one of my weakest subjects. I spent a lot of time trying to memorize facts without really understanding how everything connected. Over time, I learned how to approach science differently, focusing on the “why” behind concepts, building better study habits, and finding ways to make complicated ideas click.
With the right approach, I discovered that science wasn’t just something I could learn, it became something I was passionate about. I earned a B.S. in Cellular & Molecular Biology and gained professional research experience at institutions including the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic, where I worked on exciting areas like neuroscience, gene editing, and cancer research.
My goal is to bring that same excitement into every lesson. Whether you’re learning the basics of biology, preparing for an exam, or exploring science for the first time, I’ll help make concepts easier to understand, more interesting, and connected to the real world. Sometimes all it takes is hearing an idea explained from a different perspective for everything to finally click.

I like to make biology feel less overwhelming by breaking down complex topics into ideas that are easier to understand. I use clear explanations, examples, and visuals to help students connect concepts instead of just memorizing facts.
A typical lesson starts by figuring out what the student is struggling with, reviewing the key concepts, and then working through examples or practice questions together.
My background in Cellular & Molecular Biology and professional research experience allows me to bring real-world science into lessons and explain topics from a deeper perspective.
I work with students at all levels, from middle school and high school biology to introductory college courses.
