About Katherine
Katherine has had a successful international career of over thirty years as an educator having held a variety of posts; from teaching college and university students, to training teachers, as well as providing academic and university admissions advising. Her experience in one post enriched her work in each of the others since the skills she acquired in one sector added to the quality of her work in another. For example, knowing what the university admission's process requires, when she teaches, she ensures that students acquire skills, get grades, and make choices of subjects that are more apt to help them become desirable university candidates for their field of choice.
For A Level and GCSE, she has extensive experience in teaching the syllabi of all UK exam boards, as well as the international syllabi. She is also highly experienced in teaching the International Baccalaureate, and preparing students for medical school.

Katherine's lessons are highly effective, and tailored to the student's needs.
While her Bachelor's Degree is in Biomedical Science, her Master's Degree is in Education (Emphasis: Curriculum and Instruction); therefore, she has trained in designing and delivering effective lesson plans, as well as a complete curriculum.
She designs instruction tailored to each student's level and needs. The 'one size fits all' approach to teaching is responsible for the failure of many students. Every student can learn and can do well, provided that instruction takes into account the student's educational background, and there are no gaps in what is prerequisite knowledge for taking a certain course.
Knowledge builds on pre-existing knowledge. She makes certain that her students really understand and appreciate that. She diagnoses any gaps in content knowledge that her students may have and fills these gaps, providing a solid foundation for her students to build on.
Study skills, which figure prominently in her teaching, and exam technique, along with a well-rounded, in-depth knowledge of content, provide the key to success.
At the end of the course, her students not only do they have what they need to tackle the Biology exams but also a wealth of learning skills which they can apply to other subjects as well, and which they will find essential in all their future academic studies.
Educational technology supplements her instruction. The content in every session is presented on PowerPoint and is well organised. She clarifies every point and makes certain her student has grasped the present concept before she proceeds with the next. Where appropriate, the PPT presentation is followed by a brief video which helps reinforce learning.
Lessons also include practising exam-style questions. Students are provided with a lot of past exam papers and opportunities for regular revision.
PowerPoint presentations, as well as her notes on PDF or Word files, are available for her students after the lesson.
