About Poppy

I am an outgoing, committed second-year medical student and IB Biology HL 7 graduate who genuinely enjoyed my time in the IB and is passionate about helping other students achieve similar success.

I take a highly individualized approach to tutoring, focusing on understanding how each student learns best. I am motivated by seeing students improve, and I am committed to going above and beyond to find methods, explanations, and resources that work for them. I strongly believe that every student is capable of achieving more than they initially think, and I aim to support and motivate them to reach that potential.

I have experience tutoring a wide range of students, from primary level through to senior secondary, as well as supporting high-performing students preparing for medical school interviews. This breadth of experience has strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching style to suit different learning needs and levels.

I aim to create a supportive, structured environment where students feel confident, challenged, and equipped to reach their full potential.

About the lesson

IB Biology is a subject where memorising content alone isn't enough; to succeed, you must learn how to apply it. In lessons, we focus not just on conceptual clarity, but correct application of knowledge to show examiners you deserve those top marks. In lessons, we will typically cover:

- Breaking down complex topics into clear explanations (genetics, molecular biology, physiology etc.)
- Guided practice using IB-style and past paper questions
- Understanding and developing your own exam technique, including how to interpret command terms and structure responses
- Ongoing assessment and feedback to address weak areas and track improvement
- IA support and draft feedback

How do I teach?

My tutoring sessions are flexible and personalised to your learning style. I use a variety of methodologies- reverse-teaching, concept maps, analogies, practice questions- depending on what prepares you best to confidently and competently tackle your assessments.

My experience:

I am a former IB Biology Hl student who graduated with a 7; I have excellent understanding of both the raw content, and how to apply it in the way examiners score highly on IAs and exams. Having recently completed the IB, I can also provide strong insights into how to approach the syllabus effectively and avoid common mistakes.

Additionally, I have experience working with high-performing senior students under pressure, including tutoring for medical school interviews, where critical thinking and strategy are essential. I also currently tutor primary and secondary students (Years 3–10) in maths and science, giving me a broad teaching background and the ability to adapt to different learning styles.

Who I teach:

- IB Biology HL & SL students (primarily Years 11–12)
- Students aiming to improve exam performance or achieve a 6/7
- Secondary students (Years 7–10) seeking support in biology or foundational science

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, with longer sessions available if needed (e.g. for exam preparation or IA support).
