About Charlotte
If you struggle to learn in a school environment, I'm the tutor for you. I'm a friendly and patient teacher who will create a space where you feel comfortable and confident asking questions and making mistakes, an important part of learning. I have a PhD in Biology, a PgDip (post-graduate diploma) in Teaching in Higher Education, and over 10 years of experience teaching at university level. Until last year, I was a university lecturer, but I decided I needed more flexibility as I have a young family. My previous teaching role included lecturing but also tutoring small groups and individuals. This was the most rewarding part of my job, as it meant witnessing individual achievements and progress. I believe we all learn best in a comfortable and safe environment, where it's OK to ask questions and make mistakes. I'll listen to what you need and help you build skills and strategies to enhance your own learning, as well as help you to learn and understand any topics you may be struggling with. I specialise in applied learning and problem-solving, which means I'll help you understand complex topics rather than just memorising and recalling information (though we'll do some of that too). I'm a strong believer in tailoring tutoring to individual learning styles and can help you understand how you learn best, as well as find tools to support your learning. We would do this in conjunction with your course requirements. I'm familiar with GCSE, A-level and IB degree curricula and have experience teaching SEN and SPLD students. I was tutored by Charlotte throughout the summer holidays and the sessions were well structured and professional and my understanding was developed to an extent. However, there were some moments that there were knowledge gaps in my studies (A Level Biology) that she had not heard of, after she reassured us that she was familiar with my specification and that held me back a bit with my studies, so I believe from my experience, Charlotte can provide good understanding on concepts, but linking it effectively to exam papers and questions was a weaker point.
