About Marina
I've worked as a tutor both informally at my school for various subjects, including Higher Level IB Biology, Chemistry and English Language & Literature, and Math, French, and History, as well as formally at a tutoring center here in NYC for Math and Reading. In high school I competed in the International Maths Competition in Vienna, was highly commended in the National British Bio Olympiad, and founded my own language program with students in Afghanistan seeking asylum in the United States.
While I have excelled in academic settings, I have experienced the pressures of daily life affecting performance in school and the need to sometimes set aside time outside of class to dedicate to catching up.
I am here for moral support as well as academic support, and love seeing the students I help excel back in the classroom. Even if just to have someone to turn to for help with homework, I can serve as someone to turn to for asking questions!

Problem-based learning is one of my favorite ways to teach- bring me your homework/classwork that you need help with and I can form lesson plans completely tailored to you!
Working backwards lets me know which areas in a subject you need to focus on, so I can teach the context, and then put it into practice with the work you get at school.
I am most comfortable teaching middle school and lower high school students in the sciences and maths. I can teach all ages in English writing, reading, comprehension, etc- including advice on essays and editing lab reports to get that perfect assignment score. Curriculum wise I have the most tailored experience to IB students- but this heavily overlaps with AP and regular classes. While I am mostly remote, I can make exceptions to tutoring in person in my area of uptown Manhattan/the Bronx!
