About Zak
Hi, I'm Zak! I've played piano on Broadway for Wicked, Mean Girls, Motown, and The Color Purple, and have taught Broadway Singing (i.e., Acting While Singing), at 3 music schools in NYC and DC, as well as privately, since graduating from Yale in 2008. I'm also a singer, performer, and composer, and draw much of my teaching style from experience playing auditions in NYC, music directing Off-Broadway and at the Kennedy Center, and working with master teachers like Lonny Price.

When going out for auditions (or performing in a show), it is crucial that you be able to act while singing. Many casting directors I've worked with have said that strong acting is actually more important for Broadway than strong singing.
With these lessons, you will learn how to do both, at a professional level, at the same time!
Our focus will be to:
-Pick a song or two that fits your personality
-Explore the meaning of the lyrics, and how contrasting music behind them might imply a contradictory emotion
-Work on the story beats and how they add up into an overall arc
-Unlock the potential that every line has when expressed with both musicality and intention
Note: This is not an intro to singing class. Students should already have solid technique :)
A little more about me:
In addition to my work on Broadway (pianist for Wicked, Mean Girls, Motown, and Color Purple), I'm a singer and actor myself and have performed professionally and taught since 2009. Acting While Singing is my absolute favorite subject to coach.
