About Calvin
As a Brown University student, I worked as a Writing Fellow, where I worked as a team with professors to improve the student writing in their classes. I eventually graduated with a 3.9 GPA.
I trained as a Teach for America corps member, and the most important thing I learned is that all students can succeed when they're supported and engaged. As an English teacher at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, a rigorous Jesuit school in San Francisco, I developed even more high-impact strategies to help students of all background become stronger readers and writers. I have experience working with struggling writers, and I also have experience taking already strong writers to the next level. Whatever your ability, I am confident we can make progress by working together.

I love working with students on reading and writing skills, and I work hard to break down the elements of strong writing so that anyone can master them! I work with students K-12 on reading and writing, though I have specific expertise working with middle and high schoolers.
I come to lessons prepared with strategies to make your writing clearer and more interesting to read. I love working through examples of good and bad writing so that students can see for themselves what sets them apart. I give concrete, actionable feedback on student writing so they can improve their work.
Last, every student I've worked with has said they love my energy and sense of fun. I love getting to know young people and do my best to make learning as engaging and interesting as possible. Hope to hear from you soon!
