About Gemma

Hello, I’m Dr Gemma, a PGCE-qualified lecturer with over 20 years’ experience working across education, leadership and training.

Alongside my academic work, I have undertaken professional training through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) in areas including leadership, coaching and mentoring, focusing on organisational development, effective leadership practice and enterprise skills.

My background combines academic teaching with real-world business, communications and organisational leadership experience. I have taught Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) at CAVC and have worked within leadership and equality training environments, including writing educational resources.

I have also developed my own entrepreneurial projects, including establishing two CICs. Through this work I have gained first-hand experience in enterprise development, organisational strategy and project leadership.

In addition, I have taken on strategic consultancy roles with a range of non-profit and cultural organisations, advising on areas such as communications strategy, organisational development, marketing and public engagement.

I have also supported international postgraduate students, including MBA students from the Middle East, helping them develop strong analytical writing, business case analysis and strategic thinking.

My teaching draws on experience across leadership training, communications, enterprise development and cultural organisations, allowing me to help students understand how business theory operates within real-world organisations.

About the lesson

My business lessons focus on helping students understand how business theory applies to real organisations, leadership and enterprise.

Sessions are tailored to each student’s level, goals and course requirements, whether they are preparing for GCSE, A-Level, BTEC, Access to Higher Education programmes, university-level or professional.

Lessons may include support with:

understanding key business and management concepts
leadership theories, including transactional and transformational leadership
analysing case studies and real organisations
marketing strategy and customer relations
entrepreneurship and business planning
presenting business ideas and strategic thinking
coursework, assignments and exam preparation

Because of my experience working in leadership training, communications and cultural organisations, I aim to connect business theory with real-world enterprise and organisational practice.

My approach is also informed by professional training through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) in coaching and mentoring, meaning lessons focus not only on knowledge, but also on helping students develop confidence, strategic thinking and independent learning skills.

I have experience supporting students at multiple levels, including international MBA students, particularly in areas such as business strategy, leadership and academic writing.

I also support neurodiverse learners, using structured and differentiated teaching approaches to ensure students can develop their skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
