About Zoe

I grew up in the British countryside with a deep love of animals (especially horses) and the outdoors, and have recently returned from a year studying at Pomona College in Southern California - an experience that taught me as much about myself as it did about literature. Arriving somewhere entirely new, knowing nobody, and building a life there from scratch gave me a resilience and independence I carry into everything I do.

Outside of academia, I sing, play violin and saxophone, have a passion for theatre, love to ski, and will never turn down an adventure. I mention this not to fill space, but because I believe the best tutors are people with full, curious lives - and that enthusiasm for the world translates directly into enthusiasm for ideas on the page.

I came to English Literature not as someone for whom everything came easily. My GCSEs were not my finest hour - but somewhere along the way, I learned how to learn, and when that clicked, everything changed. That moment is what drives me as a tutor. I don't just want to improve your grades; I want to help you find your own version of that click - the point where a subject you dread becomes one you genuinely love.

At 19, university applications and A-Level exams are not distant memories for me. I know exactly what it feels like to sit in those exam halls or to stare at a university applications, and to wonder where to even start. Having successfully come out the other side, I now know that the right guidance can make all the difference.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is rooted in understanding the individual. Before any material is covered, I take time to learn how each student thinks, where their strengths lie, and what they want to achieve - shaping every lesson around those insights. Lessons are flexible in length and entirely tailored to the student's needs and pace.

I have experience in private tutoring, having supported a student predicted 3 A*s who went on to receive offers from all five of her UCAS choices - including the London School of Economics - and was interviewed for places at Ivy League universities in the United States.

As the sole recipient of the prestigious Downing-Pomona Scholarship (awarded to just one student annually by the University of Cambridge), an incoming Cambridge English undergraduate, and on course to graduate Pomona College with a 4.0 GPA, I have a thorough understanding of what academic excellence looks like at the highest level, and a genuine commitment to helping students reach it. I achieved full marks on examined papers in both my IGCSE and A-Level English Literature, and know these courses inside out.

I welcome students of all ages and abilities, and am particularly well-placed to support those preparing for GCSEs and A-Levels in English, as well as students working through the university application process.
