About Milena

I want to teach because I find helping students with language learning incredibly rewarding. Growing up trilingual with a French mother and Polish father, I understand the difficulty of juggling different languages especially alongside school and other commitments. Having taught at a French school, I’ve seen firsthand how guiding others through the challenges of a new language can be motivating and fulfilling for both the students and myself. I also worked as a swimming teacher for four years ranging from infants to teenagers and working with children with learning difficulties and have the experience of adapting lessons to different ages and abilities as well as the discipline and patience this requires.

As a language student, learning Portuguese while maintaining my fluency in Spanish, I understand how difficult it can be to grasp a new language and how the learning process works differently for all. I also hope to teach English to students in Brazil during my year abroad next year, combining my love of teaching with my passion for travel.
I believe even the GCSE and A-level systems can provide students with practical language skills they can use in real life, and I aim to help them gain both strong exam results and the confidence to communicate globally. Language learning develops problem-solving skills, broadens perspectives, and allows people to connect across cultures—skills I hope to pass on to every student I work with.

About the lesson

My online tutoring is effective because I combine native fluency with a clear understanding of GCSE and A-level French/Spanish requirements, having completed them myself (A* and A and two 9s). I particularly strengthened my skills in translation and grammar through extra focused practice in French as these were not taught to me from a young age and did not come naturally to me, so I can explain these areas clearly and effectively having had to do in-depth learning for them. I passed my B1 French exam as well, meaning I have had a lot of grammar practice and know how to put in practice a GCSE and A-level style of writing across different exams. My experience working at a French school on weekends, as well as supporting A-level students with speaking exam practice, has given me strong insight into how to build fluency, confidence, and exam technique in a structured and supportive way and how to work one on one with students. Particularly helping students do practice French speaking exams I developed an understanding of how to cater to each individual's needs and how to work around and tackle specific problems. A lesson would typically last an hour in which we would focus on one specific area of the exams (writing, listening, speaking, translation etc) and go over past papers together so that we can progressively build up a confidence of not only the language but equally importantly the exam requirements and how to meet them. In this manner I can explore how the student manages each task and how they work so that we can progress from there and cater their learning so that it suits them.
