About Yan

Hello everyone, my name is Yanzhao. I’m very happy to introduce myself to you as your Chinese teacher. I’m a native Mandarin speaker, now living in Portugal, I can speak fluent English and um pouco de português. I have 10 years of international trade experience and 5 years of Chinese teaching experience, both face to face and online. I can help beginners speak Chinese with confidence within 50 lessons.

About the lesson

Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced learner,
eager to become fluent, I will guide you every step of the way. From mastering tones to understanding Chinese characters, I'm
committed to providing you with the tools, support, and practice you need to achieve your language learning goals.

My teaching approach involves plenty of interaction and I will
provide a personalized learning plan to meet your own unique
learning style. I’ll teach you Chinese in a fun and interesting way, using mnemonics — tips and tricks to help your memory — so that you’ll never forget useful Chinese words and phrases.

For example, a typical lesson is like this:

First, I'll show you a video I made myself to let you understand what you'll learn in this class. Then, you'll learn the corresponding vocabulary, text, and grammar. During this time, I'll intersperse questions, and then we'll watch the video again. By then, you'll find that you can understand all the content in the video. Finally, we'll play a little game to help you reinforce what you've just learned, or I'll share some traditional Chinese culture, modern Chinese TV dramas, or anything you're interested in.

In addition to language skills, I can help you gain a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture and the rich heritage of the Chinese-speaking world. I love traditional Chinese culture, such as philosophy, literature, painting, calligraphy, and martial arts like taijiquan. I also enjoy modern Chinese TV dramas and historical dramas. I believe language is the key to understanding culture, and I want to share everything I know with anyone who’s interested in Chinese culture.

So, whether you're learning Chinese for academic, professional, or personal reasons, I invite you to learn with me.
