About Sherry

I have been a Learning Specialist working with students that are at the college level with learning challenges for over 15 years. I have worked in many different subject areas from , Social Work , Early Childhood Education , Carpentry Labs , Theory and Math, Renovations, Basic Computers , Computer Science, Sports and Recreation , Police Foundation , Art , Drawing , Painting , Ceramics. Individual and group tutoring along with teaching classes. Before the college I worked with public and high school students helping them with their academics along with counselling and working in the home. Also worked in the Behavioral Modification Program helping students that were struggling with their learning and wanting to quit school.
I have a very gentle and calm manner and let students come to me at their own pace and I become the guide on the side helping them learn the material in a way that suits their individual learning style. I have had many success stories throughout the years and students that find themselves on the spectrum is my specially! I love teaching and helping students that are curious to find out what their skills and natural talents are working with their strengths opening up their inspiration and curiosity to not only learn the concepts but have a lot of fun and Aha' moments along the way!
I love taking my natural talents of bringing the best out in others and taking my skills and knowledge and combining the best in me to bring out the best in you. I look forward to working with you and having fun with you and being able to help you understand how your brain works when in comes to learning so you can harness your own skills and natural abilities to reach your dreams and goals in your life !

About the lesson

When I am working with students I like to take a step back and observe how they are learning , how they are taking in the material and how they are they showing up to themselves. I want to observe what is and what is not working for them. How are they remembering the material and the most important is are they understanding the material and processing it in a way that they can connect it practically in their everyday life in a way that makes sense to them.
I truly believe that their is is a method to learn anything in life and you need to find what works for you. I also believe that a skill is something outside yourself until you can demonstrate it and now it becomes a skill that you have mastered that you can take with you for the rest of your life and use it in many different areas in your life.
I also believe that learning is fun and the key is to come at it with pretending to know nothing about the subject so that you come at it with curiosity and wonder without the walls of I already know this or I can not learn anything! To be able to look at the subject or skills with fresh eyes and ears with an eagerness to know more. To be able to immerse yourself in a subject that drives your curiosity where the learning process just happens naturally!
Where learning is never a should or I have to , but I want to see what my potential is and how I challenge myself with baby steps along the way without becoming overwhelmed! Then allowing the momentum of little successes like stepping stones one at a time in the river to get across to the other side. (the goals)
Also to be one step ahead of when old patterns start to seep back in and allow for fun breaks along the way and free time to help stimulate the body and mind to regenerate the brain to be able to focus on the new learning.
Most importantly to celebrate the little successes along the way and that their is no such thing as a good or bad memory it is just understanding how your brain works , what your learning style is and being able to harness your own skills and natural abilities to follow your hearts desires and true passions in life!
The benefits outweigh the work when the environment is a calming learning environment where your understanding yourself, becoming interested in your own progress that will help inspire you to reach your goals and master your learning styles along with meeting your individual needs. To get into a rhythm of learning where you look forward to the sessions because they are fun , enlightening and stimulating.
